Wet meadows, ponds and a three-kilometre observation trail shape Sedletín’s nature attractions. The area also offers local history, a nearby menhir and local dance events. For planning purposes, these attractions can be considered separately: nature observation has its own seasonal focus, while local history and culture offer other ways to shape your stay.
Wetlands and ponds
The Havranka Nature Reserve extends across the cadastral areas of Jiříkov u Kamene and Sedletín. A regional regulation dated 18 November 2015 established the area’s protected status. The reserve protects a complex of wet meadows, tall-sedge vegetation and damp marsh marigold and thistle meadows. Several different wetland habitats are therefore part of the same protected area. Watercourses also shape the landscape: in Sedletín, the Jilemský potok stream connects four ponds. The Sedletínská jezírka are the site that OK Vysočina has leased for the longest; water irises bloom there. Nature management and flowering may change over time.
Birdwatching throughout the year
The Ornithological Observation Trail is three kilometres long and fully accessible. In addition to the most common duck species, the mallard, six other duck species can be observed there throughout the year. Which species can be seen may vary by season. Great crested grebes also occur regularly and breed near the trail; their presence is seasonal, too. The Vítání ptačího zpěvu, held every year by OK Vysočina around the turn of April and May, is associated with the observation trail. If you would like to include this event in your travel plans, check the specific event dates in advance.
Local history and the menhir
Sedletín probably originated at the end of the 14th century at a branch off the Liběcká Road towards the Habrská Road. The Menhir u Sedletína, also known as Vysoký Kámen, offers a different historical time frame. The four-metre-high stone is set into the ground and is nearby, close to the road from Habry to Chotěboř. The Vysočina Nature Conservation Association erected it in 2002. The probable founding date of the settlement and the erection of the menhir are two clearly distinct points in time.
Culture and practical information
Sedletínské kulturní léto is a series of dance events held at the summer dance venue in the centre of the village. If you would like to plan for an event, check the specific dates before your trip. For cycling enthusiasts, there is a specific route detail: a section of cycle route 4153 opened in 2002 in the northern part of Sedletín’s cadastral area. The village can be reached via road II/346. This gives you different aspects to choose from when planning: seasonal observations, local history, a cultural programme or travelling via the specified road.
A hiking trip documented on 5 October 2025 began behind Sedletín’s community centre. Nearby, the group took a short break at Mlýnský rybník and heard about a local spring with an interesting story associated with it. This dated example links a specific rest stop with a local tale.
