Klokočov lies on the ridge of the Železné hory above the Chrudimka Valley. The elevated village and the wooded river valley near Na Pilce show different sides of the landscape. There is also a marked hiking trail to rock formations, as well as several historic and religious sites.

Landscape and hiking near Na Pilce

Na Pilce is a recreational facility below Klokočov on the Chrudimka. It lies in a wooded valley near the Seč Reservoir. The site also has a water wheel; its condition depends on maintenance. The Na Pilce rock formations are the destination of a hike that follows the trail junction at Mladiny.

On the section toward the Mladiny trail junction, the “Na procházce po okolí” trail follows a yellow-marked hiking route. From the junction, you can reach the rock formations along a blue-marked section of the trail; the destination is about 200 metres away. The colour markings therefore refer to different sections. As markings may change and trail conditions vary, it is advisable to check the current route and conditions before setting out.

The contrast between the ridge and the wooded valley offers a clear juxtaposition of landscapes. At Na Pilce, the river setting and forest take centre stage, while the rock formations provide a distinctive landmark for the hike. This makes it possible to consider the trail markings and the landscape separately when planning your visit.

Memorial tree and architectural history

The Klokočovská lípa is a state-protected memorial tree and is described as one of the oldest living trees in Bohemia. It probably served as an important landmark on the medieval Libická trade route. Its protected status is therefore linked to a possible historical role in the landscape.

Services are held every Sunday in summer at the Protestant church in Klokočov. If you plan to attend a service, check the date in advance. Another religious site is the Chapel of sv. Jana: this small church building has an apse and a turret and probably dates from around the turn of the 20th century.

Zámeček Klokočov was built in 1789 by Jan Karel Schönowetz of Ungarswert. Together with the chapel, it offers another point of reference for the history of the village: the chapel is dated to a much later period, while a specific year of construction is given for the Zámeček. Anyone interested in architectural history can compare these two different building periods.
