Skřinářov combines a hilly, relatively densely wooded setting with a longer nature trail and distinctive traces of local history. Na Skalách (654 m), Malý kamenný vrch (592 m) and Svatá hora (679 m) give the landscape its high points. In the village, the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is a focal point in the village square; beyond the village centre, the history of Rohy and the earthwork remains of Hrádek Rohy reveal another side of the area.

Hilly Landscape and Nature Trail

The “Svatá Hora” nature trail passes through interesting places around Skřinářov and Svatá Hora. It is 16.9 km long, moderately difficult and has 15 stops; around six hours are set aside for the visit. This makes it a significant part of a day’s itinerary. Its length, difficulty and estimated duration help you decide how much time to allow for the route alongside other activities.

The named hills and wooded surroundings give your stay a strong connection to the landscape. If you are interested in a longer walking route, the nature trail offers a concrete way to explore the area around Skřinářov and Svatá Hora. Its approximate duration can help you plan your day.

Village History and Traces of Rohy

The Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary stands in the village square and is considered a defining landmark of Skřinářov. The first written mention of the village dates from 1364: at that time, Skřinářov was entered in the land registers as property of the Lords of Ronov, who then held Osová Castle. A monument to the victims of the First World War also commemorates a later chapter of the village’s history.

Another historical connection is the former settlement of Rohy, which was depopulated between 1560 and 1590. Near the former forester’s lodge at Rohy, remnants of old field boundaries and original stone mounds, as well as a well, have been preserved. These different traces relate to various aspects of local history: an early written mention, remembrance of the war dead and the remains of a former settlement.

Hrádek Rohy is a distinctive, well-preserved earthwork remnant of a castle or fortification. A stream that rises there fills the defensive ditch about halfway with water. For orientation, Hrádek Rohy is approximately 1.5 km from Skřinářov, in a small patch of woodland, 50 to 60 m to the right of the road to Heřmanov. The distance is approximate; the location can be identified in relation to the road to Heřmanov.

Trees and Geological Features

The “Lípy ve Skřinářově” consists of two small-leaved lime trees. Their protected status is based on their importance to the landscape and their aesthetic value. There is a shelter with seating beneath the trees. This spot therefore combines a protected landscape feature with a practical place to stop.

One geological feature is the Heřmanovské koule mineralogical site. It is located in an inconspicuous copse 0.3 km south of Heřmanov, at the contact between pegmatite and serpentinite. Lenses and spheres up to 9 cm in diameter occur there. The site adds a geological perspective to the area’s historical and landscape themes.

Cycling, Swimming and Excursions

A cycling route passes through Rohy, Skřinářov, Ořechov, Březejc, Martinice and Kozlov. This makes Skřinářov part of a route connecting several named places. Swimming is another leisure option in Skřinářov and the surrounding area. For an excursion beyond the village, consider the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Zelená hora in Žďár nad Sázavou; it is easily reached from Skřinářov by bicycle, car or train. If travelling by train, it is advisable to check the service for your chosen day.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Skřinářov, take your plans for the day into account. Around six hours are set aside for the nature trail, so it can take up a substantial part of the day. Decide whether to make this route the focus of your visit or to allow time alongside it for local history, the cycling route or an excursion in the region.
