Rožná can be explored through two very different themes: the history of St. Havel’s Church and the minerals of Hradisko. There is also an outdoor swimming pool in the sports complex, a cycling route that passes through the village and a festival held every two years. The themes have different focuses: historic buildings in the church and the Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes, geological finds and landscapes at Hradisko. When planning a stay, you can therefore choose how to balance culture, mineralogy, swimming and cycling, rather than treating the destinations as a single sightseeing itinerary.

Hradisko: minerals, landscape and access routes

Hradisko is a site where rare minerals have been found. In 1785, engineer Karel Ručínský discovered lepidolite and rubellite, a pink tourmaline, there. Hradisko is also visited on mineralogy excursions, mostly by schools from Brno. Rožná lies at an altitude of 461 metres in a hollow that is somewhat open to the northwest and is almost entirely surrounded by forests. There is a small quarry on Hradisko, about 500 metres northeast of Rožná. Older geological descriptions mention views from Hradisko of the former uranium deposit near Dolní Rožínka, especially the spoil heaps. They list as access routes to Hradisko a path from the Nedvědička valley through the Sušírna valley and then over the spoil heaps to the summit, as well as a forest path starting from the road to Zlatkov. This begins about 200 metres below the petrol station. Check local conditions before visiting, as these route details are older.

Church and chapel: two historical periods

The history of the building and its furnishings come together at St. Havel’s Church: an expert assessment from 1993 dates it to the second half of the 13th century. It is connected to the parish house by an iron footbridge that crosses the road to Dolní Rožínka. Inside is a marble baptismal font dating from 1684. The Chapel of Our Lady of Lourdes was consecrated on 16 June 1895. The two therefore represent different historical periods: a medieval dating and a consecration in the late 19th century.

Outdoor swimming pool, cycling route and festival

The Koupaliště Rožná outdoor swimming pool is located in the sports complex. Its outdoor pool measures 30 × 10 metres and is intended for swimming. This makes swimming a distinct, clearly defined focus alongside geology and architectural history. For cyclists, Route 5130 is relevant: it runs from Nové Město na Moravě to Pernštejn and passes through Rožná at kilometre 21.00. The kilometre marker helps you locate the village along the route. The Havelské hody festival is celebrated every two years with a maypole. If you are planning to visit specifically for this occasion, check the date in advance.
