Church architecture, a gallery of contemporary art and long-standing customs give Osová Bítýška a distinctive cultural character. The area also features a castle linked to the history of the town, a nationally marked cycling route and a place to take a break by Třídvorský rybník. When planning your visit, it is worth noting the differences: architectural history and local traditions offer different points of interest from seasonal events or a rest by the pond.

Church architecture spanning several periods

The parish Church of St James the Greater is the oldest historic building in Osová Bítýška. A free-standing tower and remnants of the fortification walls survive from its late-medieval fortifications. This brings two aspects together in one building: its religious function and its surviving defensive features.

The Baroque gate of the parish church is one of only a few monuments of its kind in Czechia. The tower and wall remains represent the late-medieval fortifications, while the gate offers a different architectural point of reference. Those interested in architectural history will therefore find both traces of fortifications and a Baroque monument here.

Castle history and parkland

Osová Castle has been the surviving centre of the estate associated with Osová Bítýška since at least the early 14th century. This historical connection broadens the picture of the town’s development beyond the parish church. The Osová castle and park grounds are surrounded by a park with small structures, waterways and ponds. Estate history and parkland are thus two distinct themes.

Gallery, events and local traditions

Galerie Sýpka has served as an exhibition gallery for contemporary art since 1990. During the season, from spring to autumn, it hosts accompanying events at the intersection of visual and performing arts, as well as music performances. This brings exhibitions together with complementary forms of events. If you want to plan around specific dates, check the programme in advance.

Krojované lidové tance and the Chasa have a long-standing tradition in Osová Bítýška. In 2007, Krojované lidové tance was first linked with the Svatojakubská pouť; since 2015, Moravská špacírka has also been danced there. The dates make the development of the festival programme clear over time. In contrast to the gallery’s seasonal schedule of events, these dances also speak to a local tradition that has continued to develop over several years.

Cycling route and a break by Třídvorský rybník

Nationally marked cycling route No. 5241 passes through the Osová Bítýška area. Its number provides a specific reference point for planning a cycling trip. As markings and surface conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Třídvorský minibar by Třídvorský rybník is a self-service bar open to everyone and intended as a place to take a break during a walk. Bar U Františka by the same pond serves coffee, draught drinks and hot chocolate. Opening arrangements may vary by season; if you plan to stop there, check in advance whether it is currently open. This helps distinguish the town’s year-round cultural attractions from offerings that depend on the season or current conditions.
