The cultural monument “Vysoký kamenný kříž” in Hodíškov has a base dated to 1857. There is also a chapel with its own history, a pond of botanical interest, and summer swimming in the Kroužek and Luže ponds. A marked long-distance cycling route and unmarked paths add options for exploring the landscape in different ways.
The Chapel and Feast Day
The chapel “Kaple svatých Cyrila a Metoděje” was built between 1874 and 1877 and consecrated on 24 June 1874. It was designed by Aleš Linsbauer, an architect born in Hodíškov. The construction period, consecration date and the architect’s connection to the town give the chapel several historical points of interest.
Every year on 5 July, the feast of Saints Cyril and Methodius, a pilgrimage festival is held in Hodíškov. A festive Mass is regularly celebrated in the local chapel on that day. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check that year’s programme. This fixed calendar date sets the cultural event apart from the summer leisure activities by the water.
Nature at Hodíškovský rybník
Hodíškovský rybník is a high-quality mesotrophic pond with well-developed vegetation that occurs regularly. It is home to a promising population of puchýřka útlá (Coleanthus subtilis), as well as other endangered plant species. The pond has Natura 2000 code CZ0612135. Its plants and habitat are a distinct natural attraction alongside Hodíškov’s historic sites.
Swimming in the local ponds Kroužek and Luže has long been the most popular summer leisure activity. When planning, it helps to distinguish between the different locations: Hodíškovský rybník is notable for its habitat and plant life, while Kroužek and Luže are associated with summer swimming. Check local access and water conditions before swimming. This keeps a visit to the natural site distinct from planning a swim.
Cycling and Trails in the Landscape
Marked long-distance cycling route No. 103 from Jeseník to Znojmo passes through the Hodíškov area. For a specific ride, check the current route, as routes may change. This is a clearly identified cycling option; the landscape can also be explored using a separate network of paths.
Around Hodíškov, the landscape can be accessed via unmarked paths on field and forest tracks. Unlike the marked long-distance cycling route, these paths have no markings to guide you. Trail conditions and access permissions may vary; check both when planning a specific route. The cycling route and unmarked paths therefore offer different ways to navigate, and need not be treated as one continuous tour.
