Dolní Rožínka offers several points of interest for a stay: the history of its fortress and castle, historic sites in Lesopark Templ, and exhibitions covering very different subjects. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can decide what to focus on depending on whether you are most interested in cultural history, the Draxmoor exhibition or a fantasy world. The sites and exhibitions differ not only in subject matter, but also in what they show.

Draxmoor: distillery history and exhibition

The Strašidelný zámek Draxmoor is housed in a former distillery building whose history dates back to the 17th century. The tour begins with a short film in the oldest still-operating 3D cinema. Check the current tour schedule before your visit. During a visit, you pass through three floors of the exhibition; the haunted lift also takes visitors to an underground exhibition area. Both the building’s history and the layout of the exhibition are therefore part of what makes this destination distinctive.

There are two specific landmarks to help you get to Draxmoor: a bus stop is located right in Dolní Rožínka, and Rožná railway station is about 5 km from Draxmoor. The distance is approximate; check transport options before travelling.

Templ and Jívina: historic sites in the landscape

East of Dolní Rožínka lies Lesopark Templ, founded by Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský in the late 18th century. The park includes an English bath, a pink Neoclassical chapel containing Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský’s tomb, and an Egyptian obelisk in the Empire style. The different architectural forms give this place a character unlike the exhibitions at Draxmoor: here, the chapel, tomb and obelisk are the historic landmarks.

The Jívina ruins are located on a hill above the town. Jan Nepomuk Mitrovský had the chapel ruins built between 1781 and 1789. They may have been created as a romantic backdrop for excursions from the castle by the nobility and their guests, marking the festive conclusion of a hunt. This is one possible interpretation, not a confirmed purpose. Together with Templ, Jívina offers another perspective on the history of the area, although the two sites did not serve the same function.

From fortress to Renaissance castle

The history of Zámek Dolní Rožínka can also be placed in a timeline: its predecessor fortress was first mentioned in 1459. At the end of the 16th century, the Pernštejns converted the fortress into a Renaissance castle. These two details mark different stages—the fortress’s early mention and its later conversion. For travellers interested in architecture and local history, they provide a clear historical sequence that complements visits to Templ and Jívina.

A different exhibition world: Svět skřítků a víl

The Svět skřítků a víl exhibition in Dolní Rožínka’s cultural centre features more than 1,500 handmade figures. The route leads through meadows with fairies, a forest and the homes of woodland and village goblins. There is also a quiz game. The exhibition opens every year during the holiday period; opening dates may change. So check the current dates before your visit.

Compared with Draxmoor, Svět skřítků a víl focuses on a world of figures and a route through different themed areas. Draxmoor, by contrast, combines the history of a former distillery building with three exhibition floors, an underground area and an introductory short film. When planning your stay, these differences can help you decide what to focus your visits on; you can then tailor your holiday apartment search to your own travel and visiting plans.
