If you are considering Telnice as a destination, you can plan around specific interests: skiing, trails through varied landscapes and historical landmarks offer different ways to explore the area. First, consider whether downhill skiing should be the focus of your stay or whether you would rather include nature and culture.

Skiing and trails through the landscape

Zadní Telnice Ski Centre has nine downhill runs with a total length of 5,060 m. Its facilities include a two-seat chairlift and six drag lifts. The facilities may change, so check the latest information before your visit.

The “Okolí Telnice” trail climbs steeply and offers impressive views. Along the route, coniferous and deciduous forests alternate with sunny, vegetation-covered meadows and shady streams lined with ferns. The Telnické MTB trails cross the route and lead to a pond. If you plan to include this crossing, check the latest information on the route and its maintenance, as both may change.

Architecture and historical landmarks

St. Joseph’s Church in Telnice was designed in the neo-Gothic style. It is 15 m long and 9 m wide. It was completed in autumn 1910 and consecrated on 23 October of the same year by the Bishop of Litoměřice, Dr. Josef Groß. Neo-Gothic architecture revived medieval Gothic forms and adapted them to a later period of church building. Here, the term refers to the design style, not the period in which the building was constructed.

The Varvažovský Cross is considered the oldest monument commemorating the 1813 battles near Chlumec, Přestanov and Varvažov. The Varvažovský signpost, also known as Pyrám, is a small monument to the history of traffic signs in the region.

Nature and Oprám Pond

Protected natural areas where rare plant species grow can also be found around Telnice. Oprám Pond offers another example of the relationship between landscape and human activity: the pond was created from the former Gustav mine, and the “Ninja Factor” obstacle course crosses its water. As recreational facilities may change, check the latest information about the obstacle course before visiting.

Accommodation and getting there

In Varvažov, the Stará pošta building was constructed between 1814 and 1817; today, it serves as the Stará pošta guesthouse and restaurant.

The single-track regional Kozí dráha railway currently ends in Telnice. Train services and seasonal operations may change, so check the timetable for your travel date. This lets you plan your journey based on the actual service, without assuming there are further connections or specific journey times beyond the current terminus.
