The Krušnohorská magistrála comprises 60 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails. From Nové Město, it runs via Moldava, Cínovec, Mikulov and Dubí to Fojtovice and Komáří vížka. This is a trail network connecting several named places, and a different scale for planning than a single hike. Grooming is seasonal. Moorland and hiking route: two different planning priorities

Grünwaldské vřesoviště lies 2.5 km west of Nové Město. It includes an active raised bog, a bog woodland, as well as transitional bogs and quaking bogs. Unlike the trail network, the focus here is not on connections between several places, but on a natural area with different bog habitats. This distinction can help you choose what to focus on during your trip: are you mainly planning to go cross-country skiing, or should a bog area be a distinct part of your stay?

An alternative hiking route starts in Hrob, passes via Vlčí kámen and Vitiška, and ends at Nové Město railway station; it is 9.7 km long and has an elevation gain of 525 meters. Both figures matter for planning: the kilometers indicate the route length, while the elevation gain adds a second specific measure. This makes it possible to assess this individual hike differently from the 60-kilometer cross-country ski network connecting several places.

Local history and the glassmaking trail

The first written mention of Nové Město dates from August 25, 1341. This date is a specific historical reference point for anyone wishing to include local history in their choice alongside activities. The Sklářská glassmaking trail offers another cultural point of interest. Information boards in Czech and German are located at individual sites and other points of interest along the trail. If you value explanations in German, the boards’ bilingual text is a practical consideration when planning your trip.

Plan your journey and stay

Nové Město is on the Most–Litvínov–Moldava railway line. If you would like to travel there or onward by train, check the timetable for your travel dates. Nové Město railway station is also the destination of the aforementioned hike from Hrob via Vlčí kámen and Vitiška; if you would like to combine this hike with a train journey, include the train times in your daily plan.
