Meziboří lies at 550 metres above sea level on the slopes of the Erzgebirge and is surrounded by forest on all sides. Specific local details can help you find your bearings: a group of trees comprising two small-leaved lime trees, Loučenská hornatina Nature Park, Tesařova cesta and a range of sports facilities. When choosing, it is especially helpful to distinguish between a trail with information panels and sports facilities that operate seasonally.

Forest, nature park and group of trees

Loučenská hornatina Nature Park also extends into the administrative area of Meziboří. The group of trees known as Lípy v Meziboří stands by Okružní and Potoční streets. It consists of two small-leaved lime trees (Tilia cordata). Circular protection zones have been designated for both trees: the radius is 12 metres for tree 1 and 10 metres for tree 2. The zones are therefore separate and differ in size.

Tesařova cesta: route and themes

Tesařova cesta starts in Meziboří at the stadium and follows the slope of Studenec towards Šumný důl. It continues through Pekelské údolí to a game enclosure. The well-maintained trail is suitable for walking and cycling. Along the route, numerous information panels cover the geological development of the Erzgebirge as well as its plants, animals, waterways and population. This means the same route offers both physical activity and a range of topics. If you would also like to learn about regional subjects while walking or cycling, the panels provide specific points of interest. Trail conditions can change, so it is worth checking the latest situation before setting out. The condition of individual information panels can also change.

Sports facilities and operating conditions

The Meziboří ski area has a public ski lift and downhill slopes. The slopes are open while the ski lift is operating; its operating hours vary by season. Local sports facilities also include a ski slope, two football stadiums, tennis courts and a sports hall. Individual facilities may be closed seasonally or for maintenance. Check the current conditions at the facility you plan to use before your visit.

The options differ considerably when it comes to planning: Tesařova cesta is defined by its route, paved surface and information panels. By contrast, the downhill slopes at the ski area are open only when the lift is operating. This makes it easier to choose according to whether you prefer a route covering a range of topics or an activity with season-dependent operating hours.

A glimpse into local history

In 1949, a decision was made to build a small town in Schönbach, later called Šenbach in Czech, for apprentices in heavy industry. Much of the original development was demolished and replaced with brick housing, followed later by prefabricated apartment blocks. The historical perspective thus encompasses both the purpose of the planned small town and the changes to its built environment.
