Libkovice pod Řípem lies about four kilometres east of Říp, in a hollow at 221 metres above sea level. Key landmarks include the mountain to the west, Mělník and its castle on the eastern horizon, as well as the Protestant church, the village square and several monuments. If you are looking for a holiday apartment for your stay, these may help you decide whether the area’s history and its landscape connection to Říp suit your interests.

The village between Říp and Mělník

From Libkovice pod Řípem, the view to the west is filled entirely by the Říp massif; on the eastern horizon, you can see Mělník and the city’s distinctive castle. A strip of woodland borders the village to the north. Each direction offers a different focal point: the mountain massif lies to the west, the town and castle appear to the east, and the woodland edge is to the north. In the regional context, Libkovice pod Řípem lies in the second zone of the protected area around Říp, which protects the landscape and settlements.

The Protestant church and village square

Construction of the Protestant church began in 1852, and it was consecrated on 4 November 1855. It was the first Protestant church in Bohemia to have a tower and bells. The Protestant cemetery is also closely connected with the village’s history: it opened on 5 November 1855, one day after the church’s ceremonial opening. The dates refer to distinct events: the start of construction, the consecration and the cemetery’s opening.

On the village square, the former Farm No. 7, a protected monument, is one of the village’s buildings. It was built in the Neo-Renaissance style. Its house number, location and stylistic designation provide a specific architectural context alongside the history of the Protestant church.

Monuments and traces of history

A monument to the victims of the First World War stands on the village square. Its inscription reads “Obětem války 1914–1918”. Another monument in the village centre commemorates residents of Libkovice who were executed at Prague’s Pankrác Prison on 22 March 1944. The two memorials have different emphases: the inscription on the first names the war years, while the second focuses on specific residents, a place of execution and an exact date.

Another trace of cultural history leads to Na lukách. Krolmus found a site there described as a pagan place of worship and locally known as Čertův sklep. The name is therefore connected to a historical local designation.

A nearby landmark on Říp

Near Libkovice pod Řípem, on Říp, stands the Rotunda of St George and St Adalbert. The Christian church is nearly a thousand years old and open to visitors. It is a separate landmark outside the village, distinct from the Protestant church, whose history of construction is directly linked to Libkovice pod Řípem.

A dated church programme

On 23 May 2025, the Noc kostelů programme at the Protestant church included an opening for visitors, an introduction to the church, a concert by students and teachers from ZUŠ Štětí, and a guided tour of the church. These details apply to the 2025 event. If you are planning a later visit, check the relevant programme and date.
