In Hoštka, churches and cultural monuments shape the town’s cultural and historical character; there is also a blue-marked route that runs through the town via Roudnice nad Labem to Říp. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether architectural history or a marked hiking route is of greater interest. This brings buildings with specific historical dates together with a route to a named destination.

Churches and monuments with different stories

St. Othmar’s Church is a prominent building in the centre of Hoštka and is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Central Register. Its tower houses a clock mechanism made by the Prague clockmaking company L. Hainze: it was manufactured in 1929 and fully restored in 1998. This technical detail adds two clearly distinct dates to the history of the religious building.

St. George’s Church is originally a Romanesque religious building and is among the oldest and most valuable buildings in the region. It therefore offers a different historical perspective from Hoštka’s Baroque buildings and renovations: its original Romanesque history takes centre stage, while other churches are associated with later work and a precisely dated completion.

The Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on the left bank of the Obrtka, beyond the bridge connecting the districts of Hoštka and Kochovice. It was remodelled in the Baroque style again in 1756 and is listed as a cultural monument. In Hoštka, the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was also completed in 1762. The chapel and church bear the same name, but the dates refer to different events: the chapel’s remodelling and the church’s completion.

The Holy Trinity Column commemorates the great fire in Hoštka in 1735 and was solemnly consecrated on 17 November 1737. It is surrounded by a hexagonal balustrade. This monument brings together a specific link to the town’s history, an exact consecration date and a clearly described design feature.

Hiking route and regional context

A blue-marked route runs through Hoštka via Roudnice nad Labem to Říp. It connects to an extensive network of marked hiking trails. The route thus links a named destination with access to a wider trail network. If you want to take both cultural history and hiking into account when choosing a destination, the buildings and this route offer two distinct, easy-to-recognise highlights.

The regional setting is also relevant: the touristically attractive Polabí area extends directly into Hoštka’s cadastral area. Hoštka’s history also includes agriculture: fertile fields and slopes were cultivated in the past, and hops and grapevines were grown as well. This non-religious aspect of the town’s history complements its buildings with a glimpse of how the land was once used.

If you are considering Hoštka as a place to stay, you can choose your focus according to your interests: its churches and their different periods of construction, the blue-marked route to Říp, or the historical connections with agriculture and Polabí. These topics offer specific points to consider when choosing a destination, without prescribing a fixed itinerary.
