Vlčí Hora is defined by a wooded basalt summit, marked hiking trails and a rural heritage conservation zone. Other highlights include the Köglerova naučná stezka, the Nobilis Tilia visitor centre below the mountain, and the Svatojánské slavnosti bylin, held annually in Vlčí Hora. These offer a range of interests: the summit and springs, bilingual trail stations, timber-framed houses and herbal themes. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether hiking, vernacular architecture or herbal offerings should take centre stage.

Hiking trails to the summit and springs

A yellow-marked hiking route leads directly from Vlčí Hora to the summit and its observation tower. The tower was ceremonially opened on 19 May 1889—a specific date in the history of this summit destination. A red-marked hiking route circles Vlčí hora and leads to the Verunčiny studánky springs, about 400 metres below the summit. The destinations are therefore clearly distinct: the yellow trail focuses on the summit and observation tower, while the springs are the destination on the red trail. To choose between them, consider which of these two places you would like to reach on your hike.

Educational trail with bilingual stations

The Köglerova naučná stezka is a 23-kilometre circular trail that starts in Krásná Lípa and can be walked in either direction. Its 39 stations provide explanations in Czech and German about the places along the route. The educational trail opened in 1941 and reopened in a reconstructed form in 2006. This makes the loop a tour in its own right: the circular route and the places explained along it take centre stage, rather than a single summit or spring. Trail conditions may change; check them before your hike.

Timber-framed houses and village character

The Dlouhý Důl rural heritage conservation zone includes Dlouhý Důl, Kyjov, Sněžná and Vlčí Hora. Almost all of the buildings form a cohesive ensemble, made up mainly of timber-framed houses and altered only slightly. The term “ensemble” shifts the focus from an individual house to the village as a whole; this offers a different way of approaching cultural heritage than the dated openings of the observation tower and educational trail. Those interested in architecture can therefore consider the overall character of the buildings alongside the landscape.

Garden and herbal tea room

The Nobilis Tilia visitor centre is located below Vlčí hora. Its garden is open year-round and offers insights into permaculture and biodynamics. The visitor centre also has an herbal tea room serving herbal teas, freshly ground coffee and organic treats from local suppliers. Visitor arrangements and offerings may change; check the latest visitor information before your visit, especially if you are coming for a particular product.

Svatojánské slavnosti bylin

The Svatojánské slavnosti bylin have been held every year since 2004 in Vlčí Hora as a summer solstice festival in the landscape of Českého Švýcarska. The programme includes workshops, music and food. The festival is therefore an annual summer event, while the hiking trails and educational trail offer other points of interest. If you would like to plan your stay around the festival, check the dates for the relevant edition.
