Jiřice U Moravských Budějovic brings together scenery, art and local history. A considerable part of its cadastral area lies within Jevišovka Nature Park; the village also offers an art trail with an observation tower, historic buildings and a fire brigade museum.
Landscape along the Jevišovka and Nedveka
Jevišovka Nature Park was established to protect the gently rolling landscape along the middle course of the Jevišovka and its tributaries, including the Nedveka. Around the Nedveka, some of the woodland, including Černý les, has a submontane character. This means the wider landscape along the river and its tributaries lies alongside a distinctive feature of certain parts of the woodland.
Art trail, views and reflection
The Meditační křížová cesta runs through a former orchard and comprises 14 stations with 17 images by Bedřiška Znojemská. The site also includes a gallery featuring the artist’s paintings. The trail and gallery thus offer different contexts for experiencing art within the same site; the arrangement of the artworks may vary seasonally.
At the end of the trail stands the approximately ten-metre-high wooden Rozhledna Anička, which is freely accessible. You can park at the start of the Meditační křížová cesta; from there, it is an easy walk of about 150 metres to the tower. This provides a specific indication of the route from the car park to Rozhledna Anička. Practical access details may change, so check them before your visit.
The Meditační poustevna is located in a forest near Rozhledna Anička. It is intended for silence, reflection and rest, offering a different focus from the observation tower. Access arrangements for the hermitage may change; take this into account when planning your visit.
Village centre and local history
The original village centre has the layout of a compact circular village. Thus, the shape of the village centre is part of its character, alongside its individual buildings. The chapel, one of the protected monuments, stands in the village square. The municipality built it at its own expense in 1869. The village square and circular layout offer different ways of viewing the village centre: one highlights the form of the settlement, the other a specific building with a documented construction date.
Elsewhere, in the Na pískách fields on the road to Prokopov, stands a brick wayside shrine dedicated to Saint Procopius. A protected monument in the village square and a small religious monument on a road outside the village centre thus offer distinct points of interest in the area’s history.
The Hasičské muzeum adds the theme of firefighting to the history of the buildings and village. A description of the collection published in 2012 lists horse-drawn fire engines, old hand-held fire extinguishers, fire brigade helmets and uniforms. The items mentioned therefore range from firefighting equipment to the personal gear of firefighters. Before visiting, it is worth checking the latest visitor information.
