A hiking route leads from the Rokytná Valley via the Tulešice-Rokytná trail junction to Tulešice. At the same time, the village’s history stretches from an earlier castle complex to a Baroque chapel. This means different interests can go hand in hand when planning your visit: getting out and about and exploring historical traces. Please bear in mind that the castle and park are privately owned and not open to the public.

Castle history and chapel

The Baroque castle in Tulešice was built in 1711 by the Záblatský family of Tulešice on the site of an earlier castle complex. The building thus brings together two historical layers at the same location: the older fortification and the Baroque castle. Rococo sculptures depicting themes from ancient mythology stand in the park. The Tulešický potok flows through the castle park.

Another landmark in the village’s history is the Chapel of Saint Florian. It stands on a rise at the eastern edge of the village and was built in 1782 in the Baroque style on the site of an older wooden chapel. The castle and chapel differ in their history and function; together, their construction dates offer a glimpse into the development of the village in the 18th century. The chapel should be viewed as a separate building, not as part of the privately owned castle park.

Customs and religious imagery

Recurring traditions in Tulešice include Smrtolka and Hrkání. During Smrtolka, girls carry winter out of the village. During Hrkání, boys take the place of the church bells before Easter. The customs can therefore be distinguished by their respective points in the calendar: Smrtolka is associated with winter, while Hrkání takes place in the period before Easter. If you would like to plan your trip around either occasion, check the specific dates in advance.

Religious imagery also contributes to the village’s cultural identity. Tulešice has a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. There is also a place of pilgrimage with a statue of a shepherd carrying a lamb on his shoulders. The named saint’s statue and the shepherd figure each add a distinct element alongside the chapel’s history and the recurring customs.

Landscape and hiking route

The protected Přírodní park Rokytná nature park borders Tulešice. A hiking route runs through the Rokytná Valley to the Tulešice-Rokytná trail junction and continues from there to Tulešice along a red-marked hiking trail. The adjacent protected landscape and the route itself can therefore serve as separate points of reference for your trip. Before setting out, check the trail markings and current conditions.

Things to focus on during your stay

When looking for a holiday apartment, you can start by considering what you want your stay to revolve around: the hiking route, the village’s history or its local customs. If you are visiting for Smrtolka or Hrkání, check the dates in advance; if you plan to hike, check the trail markings and conditions. This helps you coordinate the reason for your trip with practical preparations without conflating different activities or the conditions that apply to each.
