Several layers of architectural history and themes of border history come together in Dyjákovičky. A medieval settlement core lies around Kostel sv. Víta; a rectory complex and a monumental stone cross add to this historic setting. The Minimuzeum obrany hranic Dyjákovičky offers a different focus. You can choose between local history and architecture on the one hand, and exhibitions on the history of the security and armed forces on the other. If your visit depends on opening hours, check the specific dates before you travel.
Kostel sv. Víta and the historic village centre
The first written mention of Kostel sv. Víta and the settlement dates from 1220. A medieval settlement core lies around the church, and Kostel sv. Víta is a protected cultural monument. This connection between the church and the early village centre makes it a tangible starting point for understanding the long history of Dyjákovičky.
The protected complex areál fary č. p. 36 includes the rectory at house number 36 and a small adjoining place of worship. A Baroque stone statue of the Immaculata stands in a niche. The rectory complex is considered a very well-preserved example of rural rectory architecture: its Renaissance core was altered in the Baroque period, and it also stands within an authentic urban setting in the village. The Czech Ministry of Culture designated the complex a cultural monument; the designation took legal effect on 28 August 2025.
There is also a monumental stone cross north of Kostel sv. Víta. It is a high-quality Neoclassical work in stone and sculpture, dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The badly damaged Baroque Ukřižování was restored in 2025. Together, the rectory, cross and Ukřižování show how different periods are reflected in the village’s described monuments.
Border history and visiting hours
The 2024 itinerary for the Via-Czechia Jižní stezka route lists Dyjákovičky as a stop with a museum and a bus stop. Check the route and local offerings before your trip. The Minimuzeum obrany hranic Dyjákovičky is located in the municipal office at house number 1. Since 2024, the municipality has listed public access on the first Saturday of each month from April to October, from 09:00 to 16:00. Check the specific dates before your visit.
The first exhibition room at the Minimuzeum displays the equipment and weapons of the security and armed forces of the First Czechoslovak Republic. Exhibition content may change. Nearby in Chvalovice, the Pěchotní srub MJ-S 4 „Zatáčka“ houses a military museum featuring pre-war weapons, as well as weapons and uniforms of the Československá lidová armáda from the Cold War period. Its opening days vary; plan your visit around the published public opening dates.
The two museum offerings have different focuses: in Dyjákovičky, the subject is the equipment and weapons of the First Czechoslovak Republic; in Chvalovice, weapons and uniforms from the Cold War period are also featured. Visiting arrangements differ too: seasonal monthly opening hours are listed for the Minimuzeum, while public opening days in Chvalovice vary. If either subject is a key part of your stay, check the visiting dates for each place separately.
Wine and food as another local attraction
Otevřené sklepy Dyjákovičky was held for the fifth time in 2024. The event offers wines from local winemakers and good food; the offering may vary from one edition to the next. If you would like to include the event in your travel plans, check the date and offering for the relevant edition. Alongside the monuments and museum themes, it adds a local connection to wine and food, though it should not be taken to mean that there is a fixed visiting programme.
