Havraníky brings together protected nature, wine and local history. These themes offer different ways to plan your trip: Havranické vřesoviště is known for its heathland, Skalky u Havraníků for its protected habitats, Staré vinice for seasonal wine tastings, and the church and sculptures for shaping the historic character of the village. You can decide whether landscape, wine or monuments should define your stay.
Heathland and protected nature
Havranické vřesoviště lies between the wine-growing villages of Havraníky and Popice and is considered the largest and best-preserved site of its kind in the Podyjí area. There is parking for this natural area in Havraníky, by Havranický rybník.
Skalky u Havraníků offers a different focus: the Natura 2000 site covers 17.3284 hectares. It protects semi-natural dry grasslands, shrub formations on calcareous substrates, and a population of the large-flowered pasque flower. Dry grassland refers to grass-covered areas in dry locations; the protected features also include shrub formations and a specifically named plant species.
The area and protected features provide two different points of reference: the hectare figure indicates the size of Skalky, while the dry grasslands, shrub formations and pasque flower identify what is protected. The distinction is clear for nature lovers: Vřesoviště represents heathland, while Skalky is a Natura 2000 site with specifically named habitats.
Wine as a seasonal highlight
At the Staré vinice vineyard near Havraníky, a seasonal stand run by Znovín Znojmo offers tastings of local wines. As the offer is seasonal, check the current dates before making plans if you would like to include a tasting.
The connection with wine also differs depending on the topic: Vřesoviště lies between the wine-growing villages of Havraníky and Popice, while Staré vinice is the setting for a specific seasonal tasting offer. Wine is thus encountered once as part of the landscape’s location and once as an occasion for a tasting.
The church and historic sculptures
The Church of St. Linhart is one of the most important monuments in Havraníky. A parish and a chapel dedicated to St. Linhart were founded in Havraníky in 1220. The village’s church history thus has two specific points of reference: an early founding date and an important architectural monument.
The sculpture group “Loučení Krista s P. Marii” stands beside the church in Havraníky and dates from 1747. The Baroque statue of St. John of Nepomuk in Havraníky dates from 1765. There are 18 years between the dates, making the works easy to compare chronologically, while their forms differ: one is a group beside the church and the other a single statue.
There are 527 years between the founding of the parish and chapel in 1220 and the sculpture group of 1747. Together with the gap of just 18 years between the sculptures, this comparison brings the different historical layers of the village into focus: an early church foundation and dated 18th-century sculpture.
