Račice-Pístovice brings together natural and cultural themes that appeal to different interests. The Rakovec educational trail, walks in the Rakovecké Valley and the architectural history of Zámek Račice are possible focuses for a stay. When planning, you can decide whether outdoor activities or architecture and local history will play a greater part in your stay.
Rakovec Educational Trail and Landscape
The Rakovec educational trail is 7 km long and features ten information boards. They cover the area's history, geology, flora and fauna. The route thus combines cultural and natural themes along a set course, with the boards providing a thematic framework for the walk. The trail starts about 2 km beyond Račice in the direction of Ruprechtov, at the Jermak Memorial. The memorial commemorates the landing of a parachute group in 1944. Before setting out, check the trail markings and facilities available on site.
Račice is surrounded by relatively high, densely forested hills. Walks take place in the Rakovecké Valley year-round; the valley is also a popular area for hiking and cycling. These natural attractions differ in how they are experienced: the Rakovec trail is defined by its 7 km length and ten information boards, while the valley is used for walks throughout the year and invites visitors to hike and cycle.
Castle History and Visitor Information
Zámek Račice is the prominent landmark in the southwestern part of Račice. Its history goes back to a Gothic castle from the mid-13th century. From 1568 to 1585, Hanuš Haugvic had the complex converted into a Renaissance château. In the 1830s, Baron Mundy altered the château in the Empire style. This sequence shows the building's several architectural phases.
As of 24 August 2026, the main palace was undergoing renovation. As a result, all sightseeing tours were temporarily closed, and guided tours were not taking place. Before visiting, check whether this temporary closure is still in effect.
The church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary is part of the château grounds. It can be visited during services or on special occasions announced by the municipality. If you wish to visit the church, check the service schedule and announcements of special occasions.
Near the entrance to Račice, statues of Saint Florian and Saint Wendelin stand on the road bridge over the main road. They date from the mid-18th century, are in the High Baroque style and come from the workshop of the well-known Olomouc sculptor J. A. Heinze.
Local Cuisine
EFI Hostinec Konírna at Zámek Račice focuses on hearty Czech cuisine made with local ingredients and takes seasonality into account. The menu and service may change; check the latest information before visiting.
