Němčany stretches along the Němčanský potok at the foot of the Drahanská vrchovina. There are several thematic ways to explore the area during a stay: landscapes and protected areas, pilgrimage and architecture, and the history of the municipality. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether nature watching, religious history or both should shape your stay.

Nature and landscapes around Němčany

An unusually large example of soil weathering is the Mrazový klín northwest of Němčany, near Lutršték. This geological feature is exposed in the wall of a sand quarry. This nature spot therefore differs thematically from the areas focused on protected habitats and species.

Návdavky u Němčan is a natural monument protecting heat-loving Pontic-Pannonian plant communities and wild animals, especially amphibians. The area lies about 500 metres south of Němčany and is marked by three signs bearing the national coat of arms. Check the local signage when you arrive.

At Volkramy, the focus is instead on the plant life of dry grasslands. The area consists mostly of broad-leaved dry grasslands, which locally transition into sub-Pannonian steppe grasslands, and is home to several important plant species. These include a vigorous, abundant population of the large-flowered pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis). The nature themes are therefore clearly distinct: Mrazový klín is about soil weathering, Návdavky about the protection of habitats and animals, and Volkramy about dry grasslands and their plants.

Pilgrimage, chapels and local history

The pilgrimage site of Lutršték lies on Vinohrady Hill northwest of Němčany. It includes the Chapel of Panny Marie Sedmibolestné, built near a spring between 1867 and 1877. Its location and construction history give this site a different historical focus from the chapel in the village.

The Chapel of sv. Antonína Paduánského in Němčany is a valuable historical example of Baroque ecclesiastical architecture from the late 17th century. It was restored in 1731 and extended with a side sacristy in 1872. The two chapels can therefore also be distinguished by their construction dates: the Lutršték chapel is recorded as having been built between 1867 and 1877, while the chapel in Němčany has an earlier construction phase followed by later alterations.

The Němčany Museum preserves material, written and photographic records of the municipality’s historical development. This way of exploring local history complements the chapels’ architectural history with various forms of collective memory.

Leisure rides with a historical focus

The Jezdecký klub – stáje Němčany offers leisure rides for individuals and groups, with historical commentary on the battlefield near Slavkov. This combines a leisure activity with a specific historical theme. If you are considering this option for your trip, confirm its current availability before booking. This allows you to complement the nature and cultural themes of Němčany with an activity whose commentary relates to the history of the battlefield near Slavkov when choosing your stay.
