Skoronice combines a long wine-growing tradition with evidence of the town’s history. Wine-growing dates back to the mid-18th century; the museum, church, wooden carving, obelisk and school each offer their own historical points of reference. When planning your visit, you can therefore decide whether to focus more on wine-growing and cellars or on exhibitions, art and architecture.
Wine-growing, cellars and tasting
The grape varieties grown mainly on the vineyard were Lambart, Muškatel and Ryzlink. Skoronské búdy is a cluster of wine cellars with a wine trail. Together, these details show different aspects of the wine tradition: the grape varieties point to cultivation, while the cellars and trail bring the subject to life locally. This means you can explore wine-growing not only through its long history, but also through specific grape varieties and local wine cellars.
Otevřené sklepy ve Skoronicích (Open Cellars in Skoronice) is also part of this theme. This now-traditional event gives visitors the chance to taste local winemakers’ wines at the place where they are made. The date listed for 6 June 2026 has passed; if a tasting is important to your trip, check the current event dates in advance.
Museum and local history
The Skoronice municipal museum is housed in the oldest house in the municipality, a building dating from 1903. Its exhibition includes the local Jízda králů (Ride of the Kings). The museum also presents a depiction of folk housing in the Slovácko region from the first half of the 20th century. The themes offer different perspectives: one exhibition features the local Jízda králů, while the other focuses on housing in a particular region and period. If you are interested in cultural representations and everyday history as well as buildings, the museum offers another way to explore local history.
Church, artwork and architectural history
The Church of St Florian (sv. Floriána) is a single-nave building erected in 1885. Inside the church is a late-Gothic wooden carving of the Madonna of Skoronice (Skoronské P. Marie) with the Christ Child, dating from the 15th century. The building and the artwork thus represent different periods: the church’s construction date does not date the carving, which was created several centuries earlier.
Other historical points of reference include the Baroque Obelisk of St Francis (sv. Františka), dating from 1760, and the Skoronice school. Built in 1905, it is considered an example of rural Art Nouveau architecture. These dates give you specific points of comparison for architectural and art history; at the same time, the examples show that Skoronice’s history cannot be tied to just one century.
Skoronský rybník
Skoronský rybník (Skoronice Pond) adds a natural dimension to the cultural themes. It is maintained to preserve the original biodiversity of the pond and its surroundings, and is also intended to serve the wider public as a place for recreation and relaxation. If you would like to include the pond in your plans, check local conditions for public access before visiting.
To help you choose a focus, consider the difference: wine-growing brings together cultivation, grape varieties and wine cellars, while the cultural history offers dated buildings and a much older artwork as different points of comparison. Skoronský rybník adds biodiversity and a designated recreational destination to these themes.
