Zbraslav brings together a long local history with cycling and nature. The first written mention dates back to 1222. There are several distinct points of interest to consider when planning a trip: a themed cycling route through the municipality, a nature trail covering natural and historical topics, and traces of church architecture and former memorials. Which of these shapes your stay also depends on the season.

Cycling route, nature trail and landscape

Themed circular cycling route Hornická No. 5199 runs through the Zbraslav area. Its route leads from the Oslava Valley to Bílý potok and through the former Rosicko-Oslavansko hard-coal mining district. The route is therefore linked to a landscape whose former use is part of the tour’s theme. As route conditions can change, check the latest route information before planning.

The Zbraslav nature trail offers a different way to explore nature and history. It has seven information boards about natural and historical attractions. Motýlí stráň is named as a natural attraction along the trail. The boards and the designated natural attraction give the route a thematic framework, while the cycling route offers its own historical perspective through the former hard-coal mining district.

Bílá voda also features in descriptions of the landscape: its floodplain is designated as an important landscape feature. The valley of Bílá voda also contains significant spring areas within Level 2 water protection zones. Here, the floodplain as a landscape feature and the protection of spring areas represent two distinct aspects of the region.

Church, memorials and hillfort

The Church of St. Giles stands in the centre of Zbraslav. Its building history began with a Romanesque chapel from the 13th century. In the 14th century, the chapel was expanded into a Gothic church with the addition of a nave and tower. Remains of cross-ribbed vaults have been preserved in the presbytery and sacristy. This chronology makes it possible to trace the transformation from chapel to larger church; the surviving vault remains add specific architectural details.

A reconciliation memorial stone lies north of Zbraslav, near the road to Ludvíkov in the Příčnice forest area. It bears a relief of a Latin cross and the year 1596. A copy stands at the original site, while the original is kept in the municipality. A second stone stele with a cross relief is nearby. The distinction between the original and the copy is part of the memorial stone’s history, as is its location.

Another stone wayside shrine stands at the corner of Školní and Komenského streets. Its relief depicts St. Wendelin, and it bears the year 1781. At the northeastern edge of the Zbraslav district, on the road towards Litostrov, stands the pedestal of a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. The original statue was stolen; a replica is in place. Hradiště Zbraslav hillfort has remains of a former castle belonging to the nobleman Gerhard of Zbraslav, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. Together, these sites offer a range of historical points of interest: church architecture, memorials and traces of a former castle.

Plan your visit and travel

Zbraslav ski area relies on natural snow; its winter season depends on snow conditions and runs from December to March. So check snow conditions before a winter trip. IDS JMK buses serve Zbraslav, which has four bus stops. As the information comes from planning materials and timetables can change, checking the current timetable can help you plan your journey.

The Karolína riding stable can also be visited in Zbraslav; check the visiting arrangements in advance. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Zbraslav, first decide on your travel dates and what you would like to focus on: the snow-dependent winter season offers different conditions from a stay centred on the cycling route, nature trail or cultural and historical sights.
