Tetčice offers a wide range of ways to enjoy a stay: religious buildings and works of art with a specific history, as well as forests, valleys and the Bučín educational trail. In the village, the chapel, statue and Calvary group offer cultural discoveries; outside, the landscape is shaped by a wooded ridge, old trees and opportunities to observe nature. Depending on your interests, you can focus on architectural history, the themes of a nature and forestry trail, or walks and wildlife watching.

Chapels, works of art and local tradition

In the village’s oldest part stands the Chapel of St Florian, dedicated to Saint Florian and built in the Romanesque style in 1764. Two other dates tell the story of later additions to the building: the tower was added in 1886, and the steel bell was made in 1918. The chapel’s history can therefore be explored through several points in time, rather than reducing its architectural features to a single year of construction. For those interested in sacred architecture, it offers a specific example through which to trace this sequence of events.

Another work of art is the Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk on a rocky hill near Tetčice railway station. The Calvary group adds another distinctive element with its own form: it was erected in 1850 and consists of a cross and two pylons. Their reliefs depict John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary. The three elements give the group a clearly recognizable composition. Together with the statue and chapel, it offers a thematic introduction to religious art and the different depictions of its saints.

The local Tetčický kroj folk costume has also been restored to preserve cultural traditions. It adds a connection to living local culture alongside the buildings and works of art: a traditional costume is part of Tetčice’s cultural profile, together with its chapels and religious images.

Bučín and the Bobrava Valley

The wooded Bobravská vrchovina ridge reaches its highest point at Bučín, at 444 metres. A group of nine mighty, ancient beeches stands on the summit and is visible from far away. Above Tetčice lies the Bučínská štětka stand, covering about one hectare and estimated to be almost 200 years old. These details describe different features of the landscape, from the ridge’s highest point to a named stand of old beeches.

Individual trees also give the area a special character. In the Tmavý žleb valley on Bučín stands a European beech estimated to be 300 years old and counted among the largest and mightiest trees in the area. The Bobrava River enters its valley at Tetčice; the surrounding valley is protected as Bobrava Nature Park. Extensive forests and deep stream valleys around the village invite visitors to go for walks. The Bobrava Valley also offers opportunities for mushroom picking and observing wildlife and birds.

The trail or a walk

The Bučín educational trail introduces the natural, forestry and historical features of the Bučín forest district in Bobrava Nature Park. It is easy, has a paved surface and nine stops. Allow about three hours for the visit. The trail is open year-round and is maintained in winter as well. As conditions can change seasonally, it is advisable to check the latest information from the responsible operator before setting out.

For a themed outing, the educational trail’s stops provide a specific framework and an approximate visit duration. Walks in the Bobrava Valley, by contrast, offer different focuses: forests and stream valleys, mushroom picking, or observing animals and birds. You can choose between a trail covering nature, forestry and history and a range of outdoor activities in the valley, without combining the two into a single route.
