Střelice offers a wide range of reasons to visit: the Church of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice), with medieval and Baroque features; the Střelická bažinka wetland; and the POD LESEM bicycle pump track. The Střelické Museum adds objects from everyday life in the past and information about the history of local buildings; Mladé hody and Staré hody represent local traditions. You can choose where to stay according to whether you are especially interested in architecture, nature watching, cycling or events.
Gothic and Baroque features in the Church of the Holy Trinity
The Church of the Holy Trinity (Nejsvětější Trojice) is the oldest building in Střelice. Two bricked-up Gothic vaults in its south wall attest to its medieval origins; the five-sided chancel is also an original Gothic chapel. The west tower has a rectangular entrance portal with a profiled stone surround. Inside is a Baroque altar from the second half of the 18th century, with an altarpiece by Josef Stern. This means that different periods can be distinguished in a single building: the Gothic architectural features point to its medieval origins, while the altar and painting belong to the later furnishings. For those interested in culture, the church offers not just a single work of art, but also specific architectural details.
Wetland, amphibians and white dittany
Střelická bažinka is a natural monument covering approximately four hectares, designated in 1980. The peat bog lies in the floodplain of the Bobrava stream. This natural area includes wetland communities with reed beds and an adjacent beech stand. Great crested newts and fire-bellied toads are found there; smooth newts and the critically endangered great crested newt reproduce regularly. In spring, you can watch numerous frogs return to the banks to breed. Keep your distance so as not to disturb the amphibians, and check local access conditions before visiting.
The Střelický les offers a different nature experience. This protected natural area was designated in 1980 and is one of the most species-rich sites for the protected white dittany plant (Dictamnus albus L.). While Bažinka draws attention to wetland habitats and amphibians, the Střelický les focuses on a protected plant species.
Museum, remembrance and traditions
The collections of the Střelické Museum consist mainly of donations from Střelice residents. They include clothes, tools, equipment, crockery and toys—objects from everyday village life in the past. The museum also documents the history of Střelice’s built development. The Zvonička commemorates Střelice residents who were killed during the Thirty Years’ War.
Mladé hody and Staré hody are among the traditional events in Střelice. Their dates vary from year to year. If you would like to include one of these events in your travel plans, check the current dates in advance.
Cycling at the POD LESEM pump track
The POD LESEM pump track is a dirt cycling track with dirt jumps, as well as wooden and movable obstacles. An artificial circuit, it is ridden without pedalling and consists of rollers and banked turns. It is designed for practising bike control and balance. This makes it quite different from the nature areas: here, the focus is on cycling, while Bažinka invites visitors primarily to observe the moorland and amphibians.
