Ořechov combines sacred architectural history with nature: the Church of St. George was built as a fortified church, while ponds, wetlands and wooded areas add their own character. You can tailor your stay around historic buildings, walks or nature watching.
Churches and Monuments
The Church of St. George was built as a fortified church. The designation points to a defensive purpose and gives the building a historical dimension in addition to its religious function. The ceiling frescoes were restored from 2005 to 2010. At St. George’s, you can therefore consider the building’s history and the later restoration of the frescoes as two distinct time periods.
The Church of All Saints was consecrated on 6 July 1900. Two bells from 1464 and 1564 hang in its tower. The dates of the bells are significantly earlier than the church’s consecration, illustrating the time gap between these historical reference points.
The originally Baroque wayside shrine Boží muka dates from the 17th century and was recognised as a cultural monument on 25 November 1963. Its date of origin and the date it received monument protection are two distinct historical reference points. A section of the defensive wall has survived to this day, offering a separate indication of the area’s fortification history.
Nature Park, Wetlands and Walks
Bobrava Nature Park lies in a wooded area between several municipalities, including Ořechov, and encompasses the middle course of the Bobrava stream. Several hiking and cycling trails cross the park. If you’d like to include outdoor activities in your trip, you can make hiking or cycling the focus; both activities are available in the park.
The Bobrstezka attraction lies in the valley of the Bobrava River on the boundary of the cadastral areas of Ořechov, Nebovidy, Želešice and Moravany. Its location therefore spans several municipalities and extends beyond Ořechov.
In the Na dolinách wetlands, ponds form a system with a permanently water-covered area of 2.122 ha. Numerous rare animals have been observed there. The water areas and animal sightings offer a different nature experience from the wooded areas of Bobrava Nature Park.
Štikovec Pond is a popular place for walks. While Na dolinách is characterised by ponds and animal sightings, Štikovec is a place for walks.
Pilgrimage on Foot and Museum Visit
A pilgrimage on foot to the Chapel of St. Peregrine takes place every year in May. If you’d like to choose your travel dates around a recurring local event, May offers a specific opportunity. Check the exact date and schedule in advance if you want to include the pilgrimage in your plans.
The municipal museum is open to the public by prior telephone appointment. Plan your visit after arranging it by phone rather than as a spontaneous activity.
These visits have different planning requirements: for the pilgrimage, the specific date in May matters; for the museum, you need to arrange your visit by phone in advance. If either is important to your stay, check the date or arrange your museum visit.
