The wooded western part of the Ketkovice area lies within the Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice Nature Park. Marked hiking trails, cycle routes and historic sites offer different ways to plan a trip. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Ketkovice, you can first consider whether you want your stay to focus on nature and outdoor activities, or on architectural history and annual pilgrimages.

Nature and views along the Oslava

The Údolí Oslavy a Chvojnice Nature Reserve also extends into Ketkovice. The reserve is the only recent site in the Czech Republic where the Adriatic lizard orchid has been found; it is also home to a relatively large population of large-flowered pasqueflower, at the edge of its range in the Czech Republic.

The Oslava and Chvojnice valley is canyon-like and shaped by meandering rivers; it is also a tourist and recreational area. The Panorama viewpoint offers a view of the Oslava meander known as Čertův jazyk. These are two different scales to bear in mind: the valley as a landscape and a specifically named meander as a viewpoint destination.

Hiking trails and cycle routes

The marked hiking trails differ in their starting points, colours and destinations. A red-marked trail leads from Vysoké Popovice railway stop to Ketkovice and Levnov Castle. A green-marked trail runs from Oslavany railway station via Čučice to Ketkovický mlýn. You can choose based on your preferred destination: the village and Levnov Castle on one route, the mill on the other.

There is also a choice of cycle routes of different lengths. Cycle route Templářská 5199 passes through Ketkovice and forms part of a 39-kilometre circular route. Hornická also passes through Ketkovice and is 50 kilometres long. You can compare the routes by length; Templářská is also specifically identified as a circular route.

Levnov Castle and Ketkovický mlýn

The remains of Levnov Castle stand on a rocky promontory high above the Oslava River. The promontory and the river far below define the topographical setting of this historic site. The castle was deliberately destroyed around 1440. Ketkovický, Vydrův mlýn was probably built after 1300, at the same time as Levnov Castle. The two sites therefore link a probable date of origin with a later turning point in the castle’s history.

Church and pilgrimages

The Church of Saint Catherine is a listed cultural monument. It was built in 1780 on the site of an older church dating from the 13th century. The single-nave building is oriented east and has a pentagonal presbytery. East-oriented means that the church faces east; the presbytery is the area around the altar. These features give a concrete impression of its architectural layout.

The Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage takes place in Ketkovice every July. It includes a mass at the Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The Kateřinská pilgrimage takes place every November. If you want to plan your trip around one of the pilgrimages, check the exact date for the year in question.
