Domašov combines marked trails with a history of architecture reflected in specific buildings and dates. The red and blue routes differ both in their paths and their themes: one leads to the Brno Reservoir, while the other passes through the northern part of the Rosice-Oslavany coalfield and focuses on the history of mining and energy. This provides a starting point when considering Domašov as a place to stay: should your trip focus primarily on hiking trails, architectural heritage, or both?

Hiking Routes by Path and Theme

The red-marked “K pohádce máje” hiking route leads from the Bílý potok valley through Domašov, Říčany u Brna and Ostrovačice to the Brno Reservoir. Its route through Domašov lies between the Bílý potok valley and the Svratka valley. This makes it possible to identify the route by the sequence of named places and its two endpoints.

The blue-marked route starts in Domašov and leads to Oslavany via the Chroustovské Valley, Zastávka u Brna, Babice and Zbýšov. It passes through the northern part of the Rosice-Oslavany coalfield and focuses on the history of mining and energy supply. In contrast to the red route, the historical theme also provides a clear guide when choosing this route.

Another option is the Železná stezka: it leads from Domašov towards Šmelcovna via a reconstructed historic bridge. Šmelcovna lies northeast of Domašov, nearby, in the Bílý potok valley. The direction and the reference to the bridge offer another specific point of reference, distinct from the longer routes that pass through several places.

Architectural History and St. Lawrence

Domašov’s parish church is listed as a protected monument; its present Baroque appearance dates from 1765. The current parish house building dates from 1782. The Fortna – domek ponocného is located within the grounds of St. Lawrence Church.

The building known as Zámeček, which served as the administrative and residential building of the Rajhrad Benedictines’ manor farm, is also part of the village’s architectural history: it dates from 1720. Chronologically, this building predates the present Baroque appearance of the parish church and the current parish house. This makes it possible to place three different building dates in chronological order without treating them as a single building complex.

A pilgrimage associated with St. Lawrence also takes place on August 10. If you would like to plan your visit around it, check locally in advance whether it will take place in your year of travel and in what form.

Landscape and Getting There

Domašov is surrounded by picturesque forests. The Domašovický potok flows through the village; a small water reservoir lies along its course southeast of Domašov. Together with the routes’ connections to the Bílý potok and Svratka valleys, this creates a landscape that can be explored by choosing a route.

Domašov is served by IDS-JMK bus route 401 between Brno and Velká Bíteš. Local IDS-JMK route 410 connects Domašov with Javůrek, Rudka and Litostrov. Check the current timetable before travelling.
