Novosedly Na Moravě offers several distinct highlights for a stay: the Stará Hora wine trail, the Romanesque Church of St. Ulrich and Slanisko Novosedly. There is also a museum about Czechoslovak fortifications and events celebrating wine and village traditions. This lets you choose what suits your interests: winegrowing, architectural history, nature or a date with a traditional festival program. The season matters too, as the attractions have different visiting conditions.

Wine Trail and Winegrowing

The Stará Hora wine trail has been accessible year-round in the vineyards of the Marcinčák winery since April 2005. It is 3.5 kilometers long and has 11 information panels. The trail is also part of the 37-kilometer Stará Hora cycling loop. The route lengths refer to different formats: the 3.5-kilometer trail and the 37-kilometer loop. To learn about the production process, visitors can tour the Marcinčák winery and see how wine is made. The winery offers tastings of its wines year-round; confirm tasting arrangements before your trip.

Romanesque Traces and the History of Fortifications

The Church of St. Ulrich, dedicated to the patron saint of those who suffer and the sick, stands in the village square. Romanesque windows can be seen in the attic, and Romanesque ashlar stones have been preserved in the walls. The church is one of the few original Romanesque church buildings in the Břeclav District.

The “U starého lomu” museum offers a different historical focus. It displays a reconstructed vz. 37 light fortification structure from the Czechoslovak fortification system of 1935 to 1938. The museum is open during the tourist season. For exact opening hours, call or check the website.

The Slanisko Novosedly Habitat

Slanisko Novosedly is home to the last significant site in the Czech Republic for the endangered narrowleaf grass (Heleochloa schoenoides). The area also provides habitat for European tree frogs (Hyla arborea) and fire-bellied toads (Bombina bombina). Breeding birds include the Savi’s warbler (Locustella luscinioides) and the great reed warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus). Alongside wine and local history, a rare plant species is therefore one of Novosedly’s natural highlights.

Wine Experiences and Village Traditions

Víno Ritter offers guided wine tastings for groups of five or more. The Víno Ritter wine cellar in Novosedly is open to visitors during the main season. Arrange the tasting and access with the provider before your visit.

Krojované hody is usually held on the second Sunday in August. As part of the celebration, a costumed procession goes to the church for Mass and the blessing of the festivities. The annual wine harvest festival in Novosedly was revived in 2003. A procession visits wine cellars and wine taverns and renews the right to serve wine; details of the annual program may change.

At Novosedelské sklepy open, visitors can go from one open wine cellar to another and taste wines from local winemakers. This program may also change from one edition to the next. So check the latest event dates if you want to plan your travel around a festival.
