Horní Vestonice offers several distinct ways to plan a trip: the Rozálie cycling route connects the town with Pasohlávky and Dolní Vestonice, historic buildings span the period from the Middle Ages to the late Baroque, and Vinařství Marvin offers wine tastings in different settings. Two protected areas also extend into the cadastral area. When choosing your destination, you can therefore weigh up whether cycling, local history, wine or the landscape interests you most.

Landscape and Nature

The Pálava Protected Landscape Area and the Věstonická nádrž Nature Reserve each extend into the cadastral area of Horní Vestonice. This means that two different types of protected area are associated with the town: a protected landscape area and a nature reserve. Alongside the historic buildings and cycling route, this adds a clear nature-focused aspect to your travel plans.

Churches, Wayside Shrine and Neuhaus

The parish Church of St. Rosalia is a late Baroque building dating from 1769 to 1773. The term “late Baroque” places it in the final phase of the Baroque period and connects the church to the architectural history of the 18th century. Neuhaus, also known as Nový hrad, was built much earlier: the Moravian margrave John Henry had the castle built between 1368 and 1376 to defend the country’s border. It was probably destroyed in 1426 during the Hussite campaign through southern Moravia. Its remains lie within the cadastral area of Horní Vestonice. The different eras create a clear historical contrast: late Baroque church architecture on the one hand, and medieval border defense on the other.

The Chapel of St. Urban can be visited at the entrance to Horní Vestonice from the direction of Mikulov. Above the town, the restored Boží muka wayside shrine stands by a spring. Together with the parish church, the chapel and wayside shrine add further forms of religious architecture to the cultural sites mentioned; each is situated somewhere different from the church in the town.

Cycling the Rozálie Route

The Rozálie cycling route is 5 km long, runs mostly through the center of Horní Vestonice, and offers views of Pálava and the Novomlýnská Lakes. It connects Pasohlávky, Horní Vestonice and Dolní Vestonice. When planning your trip, both the specific route length and its connection to three towns are relevant. Unlike the individual cultural sites, Rozálie is a named cycling option with links to towns and the landscape; its length, course and views can help you decide whether this should be a focus of your trip.

Wine Tastings at Vinařství Marvin

Vinařství Marvin offers guided wine tastings right among the vineyards in Horní Vestonice. Private wine tastings take place in the historic vaulted cellar; reservations are requested. When choosing a format, you can consider the setting you prefer: a guided tasting among the vineyards or a private tasting in the historic cellar. The two options differ in both the format of the tasting and the location.
