Diváky brings together a Late Baroque château, a church whose construction history goes back to an earlier predecessor, and the literary heritage of the Mrštík brothers. It is also home to the Hradisko Burberk archaeological site. Architecture, literary history and a fortified hilltop settlement thus offer different ways to explore the town during your stay.
Château and Church
Zámek Diváky is a Late Baroque building by František Antonín Grimm, a notable Baroque master builder. The château is also listed as a state cultural monument. Its named architect makes the château a tangible point of reference for Baroque architecture in Diváky.
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary took its present form in 1873–1875 in the Romantic Historicist style, with predominantly Renaissance and Baroque elements. It was created by remodelling an older building dating from before 1601. The church is also mentioned in records from 1287 and 1351.
Local Literary Heritage
The Památník bratří Mrštíků is housed in the family home where Alois and Vilém Mrštík lived. Visitors can explore five rooms and the garden. Audiovisual presentations featuring members of the Mrštík family guide visitors through the rooms. The former residence connects the literary heritage with a specific house. Check the opening hours before your visit.
Archaeological Traces
Hradisko Burberk is a significant archaeological site in Diváky, classified as both a hilltop settlement and a fortification. The oval hillfort lies on a small spur in Ždánský les; a low earthen rampart and a double ditch on the south side mark its defences. Settlement dating to the Early and Late Iron Ages, as well as the Middle Ages, has been documented. Alongside the named buildings, this archaeological landscape offers another way to explore the town’s history.
Cycle Route and Local Tradition
The Velkopavlovická cycle route passes through Diváky. It comes from Šitbořice to the north, continues east and, just beyond the town, turns south towards Boleradice. If you use this route, check the current signage on site.
The Hody celebrations in Diváky take place on the Sunday around the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on 15 August; the exact date may vary. This provides a specific seasonal point of reference for trip planning, alongside architecture, literature and archaeology, which are relevant year-round.
The differences can help you choose a theme for your visit: the memorial house connects the Mrštík brothers with a family home, while the château and church offer two distinct architectural histories. Hradisko Burberk adds an archaeological dimension, with its own landform and evidence of settlement from several periods.
