In Milejovice, local places of remembrance meet a pilgrimage history that reaches as far as Dobrá Voda. A pilgrimage site lies there, 2.5 kilometres from Milejovice. In the village itself are a chapel, a monument to the victims of the First World War, and a replica of a double-barred cross.

Chapel and Places of Remembrance in Milejovice

The local chapel stands beside the playground. The monument to the victims of the First World War is also located there. This means two different forms of remembrance can be seen in one place: the chapel’s religious heritage and the memory of those who fell in the war.

Outside Milejovice, in the direction of Přechovice, stands a replica of a double-barred cross. The original is kept in a museum in Strakonice. If you would like to see it there, check whether it is on display before your visit. The replica and the original are therefore in different places: the replica in the area around Milejovice, and the original in the museum in Strakonice.

Church and Chapels in Dobrá Voda

The history of the church in Dobrá Voda can be dated precisely: construction began in 1889 and was completed on 29 May 1891. The church is dedicated to the Queen of Heaven, the Most Holy Virgin Mary. The Stations of the Cross near Dobrá Voda also date to 1891. They consist of fourteen chapels. The shared year links two aspects of the religious heritage without treating the church’s construction history and the Stations of the Cross as the same thing.

The chapels near Dobrá Voda also include a smaller chapel below the Baroque chapel with the healing-water spring. This smaller chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and has Stations of the Cross with painted images. These details help distinguish the church and chapel sites: the church, the Stations of the Cross with their fourteen chapels, and the smaller chapel with its painted images.

You can drink water from the local spring in Dobrá Voda at your own risk. Independently check that the spring water is safe before drinking it. The grounds of Dobrá Voda also offer views of the South Bohemian landscape. The spring, chapels, and landscape give the visit different points of interest, while the historical dates provide a connection in time to the church and the Stations of the Cross.

Plan Your Pilgrimage and Dates

Every year on 8 May, a walking pilgrimage travels from Strakonice to Dobrá Voda; if 8 May falls on a Sunday, it takes place on 7 May. The route is about 16 kilometres long. The pilgrimage includes a scheduled stop at the chapel in Milejovice at 12:00, with a prayer for the community. The time of the stop may vary. Milejovice is therefore connected to the pilgrimage not only through its local places of remembrance, but also through a specific scheduled stop on the way to Dobrá Voda.

A Mass is held every year in the church in Dobrá Voda during the Dobrovodská pouť. Before travelling, check the current date of the celebration and the schedule for the pilgrimage stop.
