Oslov brings together churches and architectural history with trails that explore different themes. In the village, you will find historic religious buildings; the Partyzánská Nature Trail presents the history of the resistance and partisan activity. Outside the village center are natural attractions such as the Výří skály Nature Reserve. If you are looking for a hotel in Oslov, you can plan your stay around whether you want to focus mainly on architecture, a themed route or exploring the surrounding area.
Churches and Architectural History in Oslov
The Kostel sv. Linharta church stands in the center of Oslov, on the north side of the village square. It was originally Gothic. Historic groin vaults and a coffered ceiling have been preserved inside. Its location and architectural history offer two distinct points of reference: the church is part of the village’s present-day appearance, while its original classification points to earlier building phases.
The Kaple sv. Anny chapel stands on the edge of Oslov. It was built between 1545 and 1548 on the site of a former hermitage. A Baroque painting of Saint Anne from the first half of the 18th century hangs above the altar. The chapel’s construction and the later painting therefore belong to different periods in its history.
Another feature on the northern edge of the village is the early Baroque boží muka roadside shrine on the road toward Zvíkov. The plastered masonry pillar has a solid, cube-shaped base and an irregularly cylindrical shaft. A cube-shaped lantern-like top completes the structure. The sequence of forms—the base, shaft and top—defines the shrine’s architectural structure.
Hiking Trails with Different Themes
The Partyzánská Nature Trail runs through the area west of Oslov and presents the history of the resistance and partisan activity in this region. The route is 6.3 kilometers long. It runs from the Oslov bus stop via Černý vrch, U Chyšáka samoty and U Chyšáků to the confluence of the Otava and Lomnice rivers, then continues via Pazderny to the Oslov cemetery. The waypoints help you follow the route, while the trail’s theme gives the loop its historical focus.
Another hiking option is the green-marked trail from Tukleky. It leads to the Výří skály Nature Reserve and then continues to Zvíkov Castle. The protected area is about two kilometers from Oslov. The two trails offer different experiences: Partyzánská focuses on the history of the area west of Oslov, while the trail from Tukleky connects the nature reserve with a continuation to the castle.
Pond and Industrial History
The local Židovna pond is characterized by yellow irises along its banks and carp anglers. It adds a distinct landscape feature in Oslov to the buildings and hiking trails. This gives you a choice of different travel themes: local history, a historical route or the pond as another aspect of the village.
The area around Oslov also has a connection to industrial history: between 1886 and 1889, a steel railway truss bridge was built over the Orlík Dam. It is 253 meters long and has a deck on top of the truss. Its construction period, design and length describe the structure from different perspectives—as a historic railway project and as a bridge with a clearly defined technical form.
