Dunajovice lies on the edge of the CHKO Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area. To the south of the village rises Dunajovická hora, where views, religious cultural heritage and a flooded quarry used for swimming come together. A regional cycling route also passes through Dunajovice. This gives you several different focuses to consider when planning your trip: the landscape, the chapels, cycling or swimming.
Landscape and Views
Dunajovická hora reaches 504 metres and is the highest point in the Třeboň Basin. From there, the view extends across Třeboňsko, the Rožmberk Pond, as well as Veselsko and Ševětínsko. The elevation puts the hill in context within the basin; the four named destinations specify what the view encompasses. Dunajovická hora is also home to the Stations of the Cross and the flooded quarry, bringing together landscape views, religious cultural heritage and swimming as distinct themes in one place.
Chapels in the Village
The Chapel of the Annunciation stands in the village square in Dunajovice. It dates from 1906 and was built on the site of an older chapel. It is designated as a cultural landmark, and its visual appearance is to be preserved. A wayside shrine dating from around 1800 is located between house numbers 42 and 51. The dates highlight different details: the village square chapel’s year of construction and the building it replaced, and the approximate period of construction and precise location of the wayside shrine.
Stations of the Cross on Dunajovická hora
The Stations of the Cross on Dunajovická hora comprise fourteen chapels depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. At the end stands the Chapel of the Holy Cross, built over a spring in 1885. This distinguishes the Stations of the Cross from the individual chapels in the village: they are defined by a sequence of fourteen chapels and a specifically named endpoint. Visitors interested in religious buildings can compare the village square chapel and the wayside shrine with this religious sequence on the hill.
Cycling and Swimming
Two points are relevant when planning a cycling trip. The 47-kilometre cycle route “Poklidnou krajinou Lišovska do kraje třeboňských rybníků” passes through Dunajovice near Dunajovická hora. You can reach Dunajovická hora by bicycle via cycle route 1105; it is also accessible by car, with parking available there. This lets you distinguish between the regional route through the village and the cycling connection to the hill. Check the cycle route’s course before setting out, as route details may change.
The flooded quarry on Dunajovická hora is used for swimming in a natural setting. This makes a swimming visit distinct from both the religious buildings and a cycling route: the focus here is on swimming conditions, which can vary. If you plan to swim, check the conditions before your visit.
