Rosenthal combines places of cultural and historical interest with paths through woodland, meadows and riverside areas. In Rožmitál na Šumavě, a historic church and a pilgrimage chapel give the cultural side a distinct character; they are joined by the interactive Forest Trail and a cycling route that passes through the village.

Cultural history between the parish church and the pilgrimage chapel

The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, now the Church of Saint Simon and Saint Jude, was already a parish church in 1259. The present church building was constructed in 1909 in the Neo-Gothic style and is listed in the central register of cultural and historical monuments of Rožmitál na Šumavě.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Help is a pilgrimage chapel located 420 metres northeast of the Church of Saint Simon and Saint Jude. It is a Baroque building with a central layout, rendered walls and a dome above a spring. Its location in relation to the church and its architecture offer two different points of reference for understanding the religious buildings: the specific direction and distance here, and the building’s design and relationship to the spring there.

On 6 November 2025, the ensemble comprising the Chapel of Our Lady of Help and the individual Stations of the Cross in Rožmitál na Šumavě was declared a cultural monument. This ensemble is distinct from the church building: the history of the parish church, the pilgrimage chapel and the Stations of the Cross represent different aspects of the cultural heritage.

Forest Trail and paths by the water

The Rožmitál na Šumavě Forest Trail takes visitors through woodland, meadows and riverside areas; interactive and educational features are also part of the trail. It includes a two-storey hunting tower for children and a covered seating area with a table and benches. The trail thus combines different types of landscape with learning opportunities and a dedicated place to sit and linger.

In the area around Rožmitál na Šumavě, a route leads to the Vltava. Swimming is possible at Branná campsite. These options differ from the Forest Trail: the trail focuses on the route through woodland, meadows and riverside areas, along with interactive features; the other route leads to the river, while Branná offers the opportunity to swim.

The Povltavská and its sequence of places

The Povltavská cycling route starts in Jistebník and continues via Čeřín, Rožmitál na Šumavě and Hněvanov to Trojan and the border. The order is useful for orientation: Rožmitál lies on the route between Čeřín and Hněvanov, before it continues via Trojan to the border. The places named make the Povltavská a route option with a clear sequence, rather than a single stretch of path focused on just one type of landscape.

The options for days spent outdoors also differ: the Forest Trail combines woodland, meadows and riverside areas with interactive features, while the Povltavská places Rožmitál within a sequence of named places. The route to the Vltava and swimming at Branná campsite are further, distinct ways to enjoy nature in the area.
