When travelling to Borova, nature and a specific, clearly mapped cycling route appeal to different interests. The natural landscape ranges from protected wet meadows and a revitalised stream to the Borovská Avenue; cycling trip No. IV, “Velká jedle na Bulovém”, starts at a named car park and returns there after the section through the avenue. This lets you connect your search for a holiday apartment with the question of whether nature conservation and natural features, or a set cycling route, will shape your stay.
Wet Meadows and Protected Species
The Provázková louka natural monument protects wet peat meadows. Protected plant species include the western marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis), the Siberian iris (Iris sibirica) and the rosemary willow (Salix rosmarinifolia). The marsh fritillary is also among the protected insect species. Provázková louka is part of the Blanský les Protected Landscape Area. This brings together two aspects for nature-focused visitors: a specific habitat with named species and its location within a protected landscape area. The plants and butterfly offer different perspectives on the same protected habitat: botanical diversity and insect life.
Stream and Tree Avenue
The catchment area of the Borová stream near Chvalšiny was revitalised in 1998 and 2000. The revitalised stream has a natural, meandering bed with pools and surrounding greenery. A meandering bed runs in curves; pools and surrounding vegetation also form part of this landscape. In contrast to the peat meadow, the focus here is on the shape of a watercourse and its small pools.
Borovská Avenue is a protected tree monument in the cadastral area of Borová u Chvalšin. It is a mixed avenue with 62 pedunculate oaks and offers views of the valley. Its protection status, tree composition and views are three different points of interest. The number of oaks makes one specific aspect of the tree population tangible; the valley view adds a landscape perspective to the botanical one.
Cycling Trip with a Start and Return
Cycling trip No. IV, “Velká jedle na Bulovém”, starts at the car park by the Nová Hospoda bus stop at Rohy. It reaches the beginning of Borovská Avenue in the settlement of Borovští Uhlíři. After the section through the avenue, the route returns to the starting car park. Its basic structure can therefore be summed up briefly: car park, avenue section and return to the same starting point. Unlike the individual landscape features, the trip sets out a sequence to help you plan your cycling outing.
A Cultural Highlight in Borovští Uhlíři
In the settlement of Borovští Uhlíři, the chapel bears an inscription with the year 1833. The date on the inscription provides a specific point of interest for visitors interested in culture and complements the natural features with an architectural detail. The chapel is thus a distinct cultural highlight alongside the peat meadows, stream, tree avenue and cycling route.
