The 1848 chapel on the village square and the different routes taken by the cycling and hiking trails give Mokrý Lom a tangible connection to local history and outdoor activities. If you’re looking for a holiday apartment, this combination can help you decide whether hiking, cycling or culture should be the focus of your stay. A swimming pool and a playground round out the local amenities.
Hiking in the municipality and surrounding forests
The red Římov–Svatý Jan nad Malší–Komařice hiking trail passes through the municipality of Mokrý Lom and through the districts of Lahuť and Polžov. The blue Římov–Kaplice hiking trail, by contrast, runs along the western side of the municipality. This makes a practical difference when choosing a route: two districts are part of the red trail, while the blue trail follows the western side of the municipality. When planning your route, check the current trail markings on site.
The forests around Mokrý Lom also offer opportunities for hiking. This lets you choose between the two specifically named trails and hikes in the surrounding forests. You can therefore choose either the routes of the two hiking trails or the forests as a separate focus for your hike.
Cycling route, road and bus travel
Cycling Route No. 1130 follows road III/15526 through Branišovice, Mokrý Lom and Ločenice. The road also connects Římov, Branišovice, Mokrý Lom and Ločenice and passes through the administrative centre of Mokrý Lom. Here, the cycling route therefore follows a road that also connects the named places.
In April 2024, buses to Mokrý Lom travelled via road III/15526. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current timetable in advance. The road information helps you understand how the cycling route relates to the road connection; for planning your bus journey, the current timetable is what matters.
The excursion “Kolem Římovské přehrady”
The excursion “Kolem Římovské přehrady” passes through Mokrý Lom and follows field tracks and smaller roads. For this excursion, the type of route is another point of comparison; the red and blue hiking trails, by contrast, differ in how they relate to the municipality. When choosing your tour, these are two different questions: what types of routes are mentioned, and how is a hiking trail situated in relation to the area?
Chapel and local history
The chapel in Mokrý Lom was built on the village square in 1848 to commemorate the abolition of the robot, or corvée labour. Its dedication connects the building with a specific historical event. Until 1387, the settlement of Mokrý Lom belonged to the Velešín estate. This dates from considerably earlier than the chapel’s construction: the two facts represent different periods in local history—a medieval feudal affiliation and a commemorative building from 1848.
Swimming pool and playground
There is a swimming pool in Mokrý Lom. If you’re planning a visit, check the current opening hours and conditions of use in advance. The Mokrý Lom children’s playground has a zip line, swings, a climbing tower with a slide and a sand area. As the facilities may change, it’s advisable to check their current condition before planning a visit.
