In Kronfellern, local history can be explored at a specific focal point: the long village green in Dasný. Most of it is laid to grass and planted with trees. At its centre stands the Chapel of St John of Nepomuk; the green is also home to three farmhouses featuring elements of rural Baroque design. The green space, religious building and rural architecture give the village a distinct cultural focus and offer several ways to explore its history.

Chapel, Farmhouses and Local History

The chapel is Pseudo-Romanesque and dates from 1869–1870. The residents of Dasný funded it together; it was consecrated on 6 June 1870. The farmhouses on the village green also contribute to its historical and architectural character: the historic farmsteads there have preserved a high historical and architectural standard, and three farmhouses feature elements of the rural Baroque style. These terms refer to different architectural details at the same village centre: the Pseudo-Romanesque chapel on the one hand, and the farmhouses with their rural Baroque elements on the other.

The green also tells the story of older transport routes. An imperial road to Vodňany, built in the 1820s, crossed it diagonally. A different spatial division is important to the political history: during the last two centuries before the abolition of serfdom, Dasný was divided. The northern part belonged to the Hluboká estate, while the southern part belonged to the royal town of České Budějovice. Thus, alongside the history of the village green, two different historical jurisdictions come into view.

Water, Habitats and Views

Nearby, north of Dasný, lies the 520-hectare Bezdrev pond. It is used for swimming and water sports, particularly sailing and windsurfing. In Dasný, however, the connection with water is not limited to leisure activities: the Vrbenské rybníky protected area overlaps with the cadastral area of Dasný and includes ecologically valuable aquatic, wetland, meadow and forest ecosystems. Rare and protected plant and animal species are found there, including the highly endangered European fire-bellied toad (Bombina bombina) and hermit beetle (Osmoderma eremita).

The two water-related themes have different emphases: swimming and water sports take centre stage at Bezdrev, while the protected area is about habitats and species. Views are also part of the landscape. Dasný offers panoramic views of Hluboká nad Vltavou Castle; from the area around Dasný, there are also lines of sight to the Church of St Peter and Paul in Hosín.

Cycling: Circular Route and Trail Conditions

The 50 km Velký okruh Blaty cycling circuit passes through Dasný and follows the route between Češňovice and České Budějovice. Another cycling route leads behind the village, along a pond after a right turn, towards České Budějovice. The field and forest track on this route is in very poor condition; as the track conditions may change, check them before setting out.

Two specific details are therefore important when planning: the Velký okruh Blaty is 50 kilometres long, while the route behind the village has a poor surface. You can weigh up the cycling options based on route length and trail conditions without conflating the two details.
