In Libín, cycling routes through the villages sit alongside a pond loop, historical connections and regional architecture. These different highlights can help you choose a destination: you can weigh up whether you mainly want to cycle, plan a specific walking loop, or focus on cultural and natural themes.
Cycling through the villages
The municipality of Libín lies on the route between České Budějovice and Třeboň; cycling paths run through the municipality’s villages. A regional cycling route follows cycle path CT 1096 from Spolí via Libín and Vlkovice to Zvíkov. The information serves different planning purposes: the paths through the villages describe local cycling options, while CT 1096 names a specific sequence of places.
There are seating and refreshments at the local inn along a cycling route that passes through Libín. If you plan to stop there, check in advance whether the inn will be open at your planned time.
Walking around the Svět pond
The Cesta kolem Světa nature trail is intended for walkers. It forms a circular route around the Svět pond; its 12-kilometre route passes through three municipalities, including Libín and the village of Spolí. This gives you specific information about the distance and circular route for planning your day. The cycling routes, by contrast, are described as running through the villages, with CT 1096 identified by a sequence of places. This distinction between a walking loop and a cycling route can help you choose your focus.
Ponds and natural areas
Spolí lies below the dam of the Spolský rybník pond. Jakub Krčín z Jelčan created the pond in 1574. Another natural attraction is near Libín: the V Rájích Nature Reserve is home to sundews and other rare plants. Beyond the boundary of Spolí begins the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area, a major recreational area.
Wildlife is another feature of the surrounding area: kingfishers and otters occur in the wider area around Libín, while the noble crayfish lives in the Spolský potok stream. The frequency of sightings may vary by season. Together with the plants in the nearby nature reserve, this gives the landscape a distinct natural character, although the presence of these species does not guarantee that you will see them.
History and architecture
The first written mention of Libín dates to 1366. The Chapel of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus stands in the village square. The chapel by the pond is designated an immovable cultural monument.
The Cesta kolem Světa nature trail also explores cultural and landscape themes: its 16 information panels provide basic information about the ecology of the Třeboňsko region, typical plant and animal species, the history of fish farming and spa operations, and the development of folk architecture. The themes thus range from nature to the use and design of the landscape.
In the area around Libín, upper and lower farm buildings illustrate the layout of farmsteads in the Třeboňsko region. In this area, the peasant Baroque architecture of Veselské Blato meets the Upper Austrian closed four-sided farmstead. The farm buildings thus broaden the view beyond individual historical structures to the layout of entire farmsteads and two distinct building traditions.
