Přimda offers an unusual way to explore the town’s history: alongside the castle ruin, there is church architecture, a museum and educational trails with different focuses. The swimming pool is another practical option to consider when planning your stay.
Castle and town history
Přimda Castle also served as a state prison from the outset. In 1962, the government declared the ruin a national cultural monument. These two facts concern different aspects: the castle’s early function and the ruin’s later official designation. The history of the building can therefore be understood both through its use and its heritage status.
Church and museum
At the eastern edge of Republic Square, in the centre of Přimda, stands the Church of St George. It preserves masonry from the originally Romanesque nave. On the outside, an octagonal Gothic stone baptismal font is set into the south wall of the church tower. The building thus brings together a Romanesque structural element and a Gothic furnishing; the baptismal font is not inside the church, but set into the outside of the tower wall.
The Přimda Museum is freely accessible with a key issued by the information centre. Guided tours can also be arranged by prior agreement. The museum is also a member of a network of agricultural museums. When planning a museum visit, two different forms of access are therefore important: the key for entry and a prior arrangement for a guided tour.
Educational trails and routes
The Hradní naučná stezka Přimda trail explores the history of Přimda and its surroundings, as well as the nature of the Bohemian Forest, with natural, geological and historical points of interest. It has 10 points of interest and 7 interactive educational stations for children. A redesign may change route details; check the current route information before setting out.
The Přimdská naučná stezka is a separate trail. It is over 7 kilometres long and has 12 thematic stations on the history of the town of Přimda and the Kolowrat-Krakowský family. The two educational trails have different focuses: the Hradní trail covers nature and geology as well as history, and features interactive stations for children; the Přimdská trail concentrates its stations on the town’s history and the family’s history. The latter also has a stated route length that you can take into account when planning.
Several cycling and walking routes also pass through the town of Přimda, providing further options beyond the educational trails described above. As route networks can change, it is worth checking current route information before planning.
Swimming pool and planning your stay
Přimda Swimming Pool has a 25-metre pool with three lanes and a water depth of 1.45 to 1.85 metres. There is also a whirlpool for six people, as well as a sauna with a relaxation area. Its facilities combine lane swimming with a whirlpool and sauna. Operating conditions can change, so check the latest information before visiting.
You can plan your stay around the cultural attractions, the different trail themes and the swimming pool, depending on your interests. Start by choosing the activities you actually plan to do.
