A large, circular village green defines the layout of Lom U Tachova. For a stay focused on local history, it offers a concrete starting point: buildings and features in the village can be understood by looking at their forms and dates. Lom U Tachova was first mentioned in writing in 1379.

Village Green and Local History

A chapel on the village green has a niche in its façade containing a statue of Saint Florian. At the edge of the village green is a late Baroque chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, dating from 1819; it was restored in 2004. Together with the first written mention, these dates provide different points of reference: the village’s history reaches back to the Middle Ages, while the chapels offer specific details about their construction and furnishings.

Mill, Stele and Wayside Shrine

A circular stone stele stands near the railway crossing. It depicts a sword, a severed hand and cross symbols. The Lomský mlýn, formerly known as Birlmühle, was already mentioned in 1615. The mill has been preserved and is used for recreation. It can be reached by road from Lom to Klíčov; check local access conditions before your visit.

A statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from the workshop of G. Böhm has stood in front of the Lomský mlýn since 1829. The granite sculpture is 280 cm high, while the figure itself measures 94 cm. The dimensions of the entire monument therefore differ considerably from those of the figure depicted.

A late Gothic wayside shrine dated 1594 stands on the road to Brod nad Tichou, in front of house No. 47. The stone shrine, Boží muka, has a polygonal pillar and a top section crowned by a donkey-back arch. A cellar with a barrel vault behind house No. 25 and low earth mounds in its vicinity are considered possible remains of the former Tvrz. Their identification as possible remains is tentative.

Cycling Route and Getting There

The municipal plan from 2023 lists the 55 km cycling route 2138 from Mariánské Lázně via Lom U Tachova to Přední Zahájí. It describes the route as moderate and signposted. It runs along roads as well as local and farm tracks; surfaces include asphalt and both paved and unpaved sections. The plan recommends mountain bikes and trekking bikes. Check current signs and route conditions before setting out.

Lom U Tachova railway station is on line 184 between Domažlice and Planá u Mariánských Lázní. For your journey, check the current timetable, as the line designation alone does not indicate which services are available on your travel date.

Choose the Focus of Your Stay

This gives you two distinct themes to focus on when planning your trip: local architecture and history, with its chapels, monuments and historical traces, or cycling on route 2138. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider which of these themes you want your stay to centre on. The route information and local cultural heritage address different questions when deciding on your trip.
