The Church of St Peter and Paul anchors the history of Líšťany in different eras: local chronicles mention it for the first time in 1369, and the foundation stone for the present-day church was laid on 20 May 1768. A statue of the Virgin Mary dating from the early 16th century stands on the triumphal arch. These dates mark different stages: the first written mention, the start of construction of the present-day church, and an older work of art.

Church, Château and Chapel

Líšťany Château was built in the first quarter of the 18th century as a four-winged Baroque complex on the foundations of a medieval fortress. Its construction thus links an older fortification with a later château. Together with the church’s different dates, it shows how the buildings of Líšťany reveal various historical periods.

A small chapel dating from the late 19th century stands beside a road on the edge of the village. Its circular ground plan and conical roof topped with a cross define its exterior. Its features include blind arcades on small columns with cushion capitals and an arcaded frieze.

Fortified Sites and Ruins

Near Luhov, the “Vojenský tábor” hillfort site lies on a spur above the confluence of the Žebrácký potok and the Mže. The fortified area covers more than nine hectares. Its position at the confluence and the stated area give an idea of the site’s scale, which differs from that of a single building.

Near Hunčice, the ruins of Frumštejn Castle lie southeast of the village on a spur. The castle complex is almost rectangular, surrounded by a deep ditch and an outer rampart. Those interested in historic fortifications will find a different type of site here than the Baroque château in Líšťany or the hillfort near Luhov.

Luhov Château is listed as open to the public from June to September. Visitors can see the interior, including the Black Kitchen, as well as prints by the English artist William Hogarth. Check before travelling whether it is currently open for the season.

Hracholusky Reservoir and Planning Your Stay

In the wider area around Líšťany, the Hracholusky Reservoir offers opportunities for swimming, hiking and cycling. This is a different focus from the local architectural history: when planning your stay, you can decide whether to focus on cultural monuments or on activities by the water and outdoors.

The Hracholusky Tourist Information Centre at Lipno 357, Líšťany, provides information about water tourism, fishing, camping and trips around the reservoir. For boat trips on the reservoir, the Hracholusky and Transkemp piers serve as starting points; you can also board and disembark at Radost pier. The trips are seasonal, so check the timetable before travelling.

This lets you tailor the focus of your stay to your interests. Check visiting hours for Luhov Château and departure times for the seasonal boat trips in advance.
