Hojsova Stráž can be explored through specific hiking, nature and cultural themes. A hiking route leads from here to Můstek; one section of the Hojsova Stráž educational trail can also be cycled. Its information boards describe sacred monuments, while the Brčálnické mokřady wetlands are a separate focus for nature conservation. The village is also home to the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and the Šumava Astronomical Clock. For your stay, you can first decide whether hiking, sacred history or nature topics should take priority.
Hiking to Můstek
The hiking route from Hojsova Stráž to Můstek follows a ridge trail and a red-marked hiking trail. Můstek stands at an elevation of 1,234.6 metres and is the highest point of the outing. From there, there are good views to the east and west. If you like planning around a named destination, you can use this high point as your reference: the tour combines a clearly named summit with views in two directions.
An educational trail section for cycling
Section Z7–Z11 of the Hojsova Stráž educational trail from Prenet to Hojsova Stráž can also be cycled. This section includes challenging climbs and descents. The fact that you can cycle there does not mean it is an easy ride. The distinction is useful when choosing between a hike and a cycling trip: the hike to Můstek focuses on the high point and the views, while the challenging climbs and descents on the educational trail section should be taken into account.
Nature and protected communities
Naturally developed herbaceous and woody plant communities are protected in the Brčálnické mokřady wetlands. The protected area also includes plant and animal species associated with extensive agricultural use. The conservation focus therefore encompasses both the development of vegetation and species connected with extensive farming. For nature enthusiasts, this offers a distinct perspective on the landscape: in addition to naturally developed plant communities, the protected area also includes these habitats shaped by agriculture.
Sacred history and local details
The information boards on the Hojsova Stráž educational trail also describe sacred monuments. The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary in Hojsova Stráž has its own building history: it was built between 1824 and 1826 on the site of a wooden chapel that had stood there since 1761. The history of this sacred site therefore goes back beyond the construction of the church; a wooden chapel had previously stood on the same site.
The Šumava Astronomical Clock stands on the main road in the centre of Hojsova Stráž. Its five-metre-tall wooden tower carries several astronomical dials; the clock is freely accessible and free of charge. Its location and design give it a concrete connection to the village centre. For travellers interested in astronomical objects, it is a clearly named destination alongside the sacred themes of the educational trail and the church.
In Prenet, the painting of Saint Kunhuta was returned to the Chapel of Saint Kunhuta after its restoration. Sacred art history is therefore another subject in its own right.
