Mochtín lies between the mountain regions of Brdy and Šumava. The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the memorial to those who fell in the First World War, and the preserved façade of the former “U Vlčků” inn offer insights into different aspects of the town’s history. There is also a cycling route through Mochtín and a more detailed description of a section of Cycling Route 305. When planning a trip, this puts architectural and commemorative history alongside cycling; in Kocourov, there is also a ski area for downhill skiing.

Local history in buildings and places of remembrance

The Chapel of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was built in 1893 and is the only religious building in the municipality of Mochtín. It has been repaired several times; the most recent reconstruction took place in 1993. Exactly one hundred years separate its construction from its most recent reconstruction. The chapel can be understood both in terms of its long history and its special place within the municipality.

Another chapter in local memory is recorded by the memorial to those who fell in the First World War. It commemorates local soldiers Emanuel and Václav Doubek. Mochtín also retains the decorated façade of the former courtyard of the “U Vlčků” inn. The two sites point to different aspects of history: the memorial to people remembered by name, and the façade to a former inn and its courtyard. Those interested in local history will therefore find both a memorial and a surviving architectural detail here.

Cycling: a route and a specified section

The “Z Klatov na kole do Mlázov” cycling route passes through Mochtín. It runs along cycle paths and little-used Class II roads. This change in road types is relevant for planning: the route does not consist exclusively of cycle paths. As road conditions may change, it is advisable to check them before setting out.

A section of Cycling Route 305 in Mochtín answers a different planning question. A description from 2019 gives its length as 832 metres and identifies its endpoints as the area between the former mill and the road to Újezdec. It also describes how the section diverted cyclists from the heavily trafficked I/22 road onto a stretch closed to motor traffic. These details refer specifically to this part of the cycling route, not to its total length. Check local conditions and access restrictions before setting out. The two cycling references therefore differ: the “Z Klatov na kole do Mlázov” route is defined by its course through Mochtín and the changes in path type; Cycling Route 305 concerns a specifically defined section with named endpoints.

Ski area in Kocourov

In the Kocourov area within the municipality of Mochtín is the AKTIVITY Park Kocourov sports and recreation complex, which includes a ski area for downhill skiing. This adds another option to the local activities to consider when planning a trip, but unlike the chapel, memorial and façade detail, it is subject to seasonal operation. Check whether the ski area is open before planning a visit. The range of activities makes it easy to choose your focus: local history and cycling are just as much a part of the area as downhill skiing in Kocourov.
