The hill of Svatá Markéta lies above Dlažov at 642 metres above sea level. People have long come here for the impressive views and unspoilt nature. The similar-sounding names refer to different things: Svatá Markéta is the hill, the Chapel of Svaté Markéty stands on it, and Rozhledna Markéta is the observation tower. This distinction helps you consider the landscape, sacred architecture and viewpoint separately. Together, these themes shape a visit: the hill provides the landscape setting, the chapel a historical and religious connection, and the tower views of the surrounding area.

Hiking to Rozhledna Markéta

A yellow-marked hiking route leads from the edge of Dlažov to Rozhledna Markéta. The trail is about 2.6 kilometres long and climbs 150 metres. Both figures are useful when planning the hike: the approximate distance indicates the length of the route, while the elevation gain makes the climb clear. This means the hike cannot be assessed by distance alone. Admission to Rozhledna Markéta is free. Check the current opening conditions before your visit; conditions on the hiking trail may change.

Panoramas in Four Directions

From Rozhledna Markéta, the panoramic view extends to Čerchov in the west, Ostrý in the south, Doubrava in the north and the Klatovská kotlina in the east. The cardinal directions give the all-round view a clear structure. You can locate the four named landmarks in the panorama one after another. The view therefore extends beyond a single landmark and opens up in several directions. This distinction is useful when planning: the tower is not only the destination of the marked hiking route, but also a viewpoint in its own right, with named viewing directions.

Chapel and Parish Church

The Chapel of Svaté Markéty was built in 1886 on the hill above Dlažov and dedicated to Saint Margaret. It was solemnly consecrated in 1887, in the presence of 25 priests and with a large turnout from the surrounding area. The dates mark two different stages: 1886 refers to the construction, and 1887 to the consecration. This makes it possible to place the chapel’s building history more precisely in time than a single date would.

The present-day parish church of “sv. Antonína Paduánského” in Dlažov is a simple 18th-century building. The masonry of the nave preserves the original form of an earlier Marian chapel. The two sacred buildings thus offer different points of reference for exploring the history of the village: for the chapel, the construction date, consecration and dedication take centre stage; for the parish church, its simple design is complemented by the preserved form of an earlier chapel in the nave. Visitors interested in architecture can compare these two distinct historical features in Dlažov.
