Chlistov offers several distinct reasons to visit: the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, rural vernacular architecture, the Jewish cemetery and a natural swimming pool. There is also fishing and a cycling route. The range of things to see and do spans architecture and history as well as outdoor activities. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Chlistov, you can start by considering which of these interests you want to shape your stay.

Church and Vernacular Architecture

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is first documented in writing in 1360. Originally Gothic, it has a single nave and a rectangular layout; its three-sided chancel dates from the 14th century. These are two distinct dates: the church’s first written mention and the date of the chancel. A single-nave church has one main nave; the chancel is the area at the end of the church interior.

The farmhouse at u Mýdlů No. 37 probably dates from the 18th century. It is a single-storey Šumava-type house, built from large, unworked logs, and is an example of archaic log-built vernacular architecture in the Šumava region. The date is approximate and should not be taken as an exact year of construction.

No. 32 has a different design: this two-storey log house has a side gallery and a projecting gable. It is an example of 19th-century vernacular architecture. It offers a concrete comparison with farmhouse No. 37: No. 37 is single-storey, while No. 32 has two storeys; the architectural features described also differ.

The rural homestead at No. 38 represents another form of local vernacular architecture. It is considered a typical 19th-century example and comprises a residential building with a cellar, a stable and a barn. What sets it apart from the two farmhouses is its composition: rather than a single type of house, it includes several parts of a rural homestead. Chlistov’s architectural heritage can thus be considered at different scales, from an individual house to a homestead with several buildings.

Jewish Cemetery

The Jewish cemetery in Chlistov was established in 1869 and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It adds the town’s distinct Jewish heritage to its church and vernacular architecture. The cemetery can be reached by a field track that continues from the road north of Chlistov. For practical orientation, use this northern access point as your reference; check current track conditions before your visit.

Swimming Pool and Cycling Route

Fishing is possible at Chlistov’s natural swimming pool, whose dam is lined with a row of trees. The area therefore combines a recreational activity with a distinctive landscape feature—a different focus from its architectural history.

Cycling route No. 2285 passes by the church; no hiking trail passes there. This distinction is useful when planning your route: the church is a specific reference point on the cycling route, while no hiking trail runs past it.

When planning your trip, you can choose between these interests: the houses and church offer different architectural styles and historical context, the cemetery represents a distinct historical subject, and fishing is possible at the swimming pool. The cycling route adds a specific option for cycling. When looking for a holiday apartment in Chlistov, you can start by deciding what you want to focus on during your stay.
