Černíkov combines a clearly defined valley setting with historic sites and rolling countryside. The village lies at the end of a broad, flat valley that gradually rises to the north, and at the foot of Malý Kouřim. On its eastern side, a forested ridge at Velký Bítov bounds the valley.

Ruchomperk: Layout and History

The ruins of Ruchomperk Castle are located in Černíkov. The castle’s layout is oval or rectangular; a deep moat and an outer rampart surround it on three sides. Inside, a cross ditch divides the layout into two areas. The outer defensive line and the inner divisions thus stand side by side: the moat and rampart frame the site, while the cross ditch further divides its area. The grounds are covered in mature deciduous forest, so the setting is as much a part of the ruins’ character as their layout.

Ruchomperk was probably built at the end of the 12th century on the site of a prehistoric fortification. The first written mention of Černíkov dates from 1379.

Pušperk and the Former Fortress

Pušperk has a different historical reference point. The castle ruins stand on a hill about two kilometres from Černíkov and were first mentioned in 1266. Ruchomperk, by contrast, is associated with a probable construction date at the end of the 12th century. For Pušperk, the date refers to its first mention; for Ruchomperk, it refers to a presumed construction period. This distinction is useful when comparing the two sites: the dates do not refer to the same historical milestone.

Černíkov’s former fortress stood by the village pond, next to the village square. It was last recorded as abandoned in 1592. The historic sites also differ in location: Ruchomperk is in the village, Pušperk is on a hill about two kilometres away, and the fortress stood next to the village square.

Cycling, Nature Trail and Circular Route

The rolling countryside around Černíkov is suitable for cycling. A regional publication from 2025 mentions the five-kilometre nature trail “Co je za humny Černíkova” (“What Lies Beyond Černíkov’s Fields”). As local facilities and conditions can change, check them before setting out.

A virtual circular route covering Černíkov, Pušperk, Ruchomperk and Stará Ves is also marked in the surrounding area. For route details, the municipality directs visitors to an interactive map. The two options are useful for different purposes: the nature trail has a stated length, while the virtual circular route can be explored through its named places and the map.

Bus Connections and Úžlebec

Regular bus services run from Černíkov to Kdyně, Domažlice and Klatovy. As transport connections may change, check the latest timetables before travelling.

Nearby Úžlebec covers 2.3 hectares, including 0.8 hectares of water. It is described as a place for camping with swimming. However, the area is currently closed and entry is prohibited; camping and swimming are therefore not currently accessible visitor options. Check the latest information about the closure before travelling.
