Běhařov lies between Šumava and Český les, on the left bank of the Úhlava, sheltered from the wind by Pohoří Hill. The village combines a distinctive geographical setting with cultural history and several cycling routes. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Běhařov can plan their stay around these two main attractions: the castle and church in the village, or cycling circuits with specific distances.
Castle history and the Church of St. Procopius
Alois Kalvoda used Běhařov Castle as a summer art school specializing in landscape painting. This use anchored landscape painting in the village’s cultural history. The castle is not open to the public. As access status may change, check again before your trip.
The Church of St. Procopius is a small early Gothic church dating from after the mid-13th century. It has three altars; a Baroque statue of St. Procopius stands on the main altar. The early Gothic building and the Baroque statue provide contrasting historical accents. The castle’s history and the church building thus represent two distinct cultural points of interest in Běhařov.
Cycling routes of varying lengths
Route 2089 connects to the village square in Běhařov. Cycling route 2052 runs via Úborsko and Bystřice nad Úhlavou to Nýrsko. There are also three circuits with named routes and distances:
- Úborsko–Běhařov–Dobrá Voda–Svatá Markéta–Veselí–Klenová–Úborsko: 22 km.
- Běhařov–Pocinovice–Orlovice–Orlovická Hora–Jezvinec–Nýrsko–Úborsko–Běhařov: 25 km.
- Úborsko–Běhařov–Dobrá Voda–Libkov–Modlín–Loučim–Koráb and back: 30 km.
The 22 km and 30 km circuits follow the same sequence through Úborsko, Běhařov, and Dobrá Voda before their remaining routes diverge. The 25 km circuit runs via Pocinovice, Orlovice, Orlovická Hora, Jezvinec, and Nýrsko before returning to Běhařov via Úborsko. In terms of distance, the circuits range from 22 to 25 to 30 km; their routes can also be compared by the places listed. Signage and route conditions may change, so check the latest information before setting out. The shortest and longest circuits differ by a total of eight kilometres.
Paved paths for nature outings
Paved paths in the surrounding municipalities can be used for outings in nature. Views of Šumava, the Strážovské vrchy, Český les, and the Úhlava Valley are possible along the way. For cycling circuits, you can compare distances and routes; for these nature outings, the focus is on paved paths and the views. This gives you different ways to plan: choose a specific circuit distance or paths with views of the landscapes listed above.
