Pelechy combines a local history dating back to the 18th century with designated hiking trails and cycling routes. This offers two distinct focuses for planning: historical traces in the village and time spent on routes intended for pedestrians and cyclists. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Pelechy, you can tailor your stay according to whether local history, architectural heritage or activities on the designated routes are your priority.

Local History Between Names and Traces of Time

Pelechy was established between 1768 and 1789 in the Kout estate. Historical records of the village name date from 1789, 1854 and 1895; they give the forms Pelechny, Pelechen and Bernloch. An interesting point for putting the dates in context: 1789 is both the end of the founding period and one of the years in which the name is recorded; the other records mentioned date from 1854 and 1895. The historical German name Bernloch is explained as “Pelech”, “cave” or “animal burrow”; in the case of Pelechy, it probably referred to a remote community hidden in the forests.

The neighbouring settlement of Šnory, formerly known in German as Kohlstäten, represents another period in the area’s history. It was depopulated after the end of the Second World War in 1945 and disappeared. Pelechy’s establishment in the 18th century and the disappearance of Šnory in 1945 mark two distinct chapters in local history.

Local Landmarks and Architectural Heritage

The former elementary school building, together with its mighty lime trees, is an important landmark and cultural monument of Pelechy. Háječek, planted by teacher Černý together with his pupils after the war, is considered an adornment to the village. These examples offer different points of focus: the former school is notable for the building and lime trees together, while Háječek is notable for the planting established after the war. You can explore local history through both a former school building and a green space created together with pupils.

The chapel southwest of Pelechy is designated as an architecturally valuable object in the land-use plan in force since 12 January 2026. For a stay focused on architectural heritage, it adds another architectural perspective to the village’s landmarks.

Trails and Getting There

Field and forest tracks in Pelechy are primarily intended for shared use by pedestrians and cyclists for landscape management and recreation. Existing cycling routes and KČT-marked hiking trails are also designated for Pelechy. The distinction is useful when planning: KČT-marked routes are designated as hiking trails, while cycling routes are a separate type of route. The dual purpose of the field and forest tracks is also important: they serve not only recreation but also landscape management.
