On the village square in Chodská Lhota are two distinct historical landmarks: the memorial to the victims of the First World War and, in the middle of the square, the Chapel of St. Wenceslas. The chapel was built in the Neo-Gothic style at the end of the 19th century. Narrow, tall windows and an entrance portal with a pointed arch shape its architecture. Thus, the village square brings together the memory of the victims of the First World War and an architectural monument from the late 19th century.
History between the document and the village square
The history of the village reaches further back than these more recent landmarks. Chodská Lhota is one of the eleven oldest Chod villages listed in a document issued by King John of Luxembourg on 16 March 1325. Another point of reference is a well-known uprising in which Chodská Lhota took part and which was suppressed in 1693. Together with the chapel’s construction date, these details mark different chapters: the village’s medieval mention in a document, a late-17th-century conflict and late-19th-century architecture.
Nature monument and walking paths
The Německá hora Nature Monument lies within the municipality. The area is nationally important for the presence of specially protected plant and animal species, including prasetník lysý. If you are interested in nature conservation and biodiversity, this offers a specific connection to the natural environment of the municipality.
There is also a practical option for walks: paved paths provide access to the area around Chodská Lhota, including for family walks. The nature monument and paved paths describe different aspects of a stay—a protected habitat and opportunities for walks in the surrounding area.
Hiking: forest trail or numbered route
A marked hiking trail leads from Chodská Lhota via Štefle through deep forests towards Orlovice. Another route description refers to marked hiking trail No. 1 (0225): it is 31.5 km long and runs through Chodská Lhota between Nová Ves and Štefle. When planning, the different details can help you distinguish between the trails: the first description mentions forest sections and the direction of Orlovice; the second gives a route number, a distance and the places along the way.
Štefle appears in both trail descriptions, but serves a different role in each: the trail towards Orlovice passes through Štefle, while Route No. 1 (0225) runs through Chodská Lhota between Nová Ves and Štefle. When choosing a route, the destinations and the described course may therefore matter more than simply searching for a hiking trail. The trails are described with different details, which you can take into account depending on the hike you have in mind.
Cycling route and local transport
For a bike ride, Route No. 2051 runs from Hluboká along Road III/1923 through the centre of Chodská Lhota to Orlovice. Unlike the hiking trail descriptions, the road and the passage through the village centre are explicitly part of the route. This makes it possible to distinguish between a cycling route through the centre and the described hiking trails through forest sections or between the places mentioned.
