Stašov offers a range of themes for a trip: the Křetínka floodplain and ponds, historic buildings, and opportunities for cycling, running and hiking. Sport fishing is also among the local leisure activities. When planning, you can decide whether to focus on the landscape, architectural history or outdoor activities.
Landscape and waterways
The Údolí Křetínky Nature Park extends into the cadastral area of Stašov. About 400 hectares of the park’s total 5,570 hectares lie within the municipality. The Křetínka floodplain begins near the southern houses of Stašov and continues south through a deeply incised valley. This offers both a large landscape area and a distinctive valley form to explore as separate nature themes.
The Stašovské rybníky form a system of eleven ponds in the Křetínka catchment. The system was created from 1995 onward as part of the catchment’s revitalisation. Another waterside landscape is the Za školou pond cascade: it comprises ponds and surrounding wetlands along an unnamed stream between the church in Stašov and the road to Jedlová. Here, the pond system in the catchment meets a stream and wetland landscape.
Architectural history in Stašov
The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary stands on a rise in the upper part of the square. The free-standing building has a single nave, and its chancel faces west. The main altar also faces west. The church was restored between 1864 and 1873. Its location, design and orientation offer several specific points of interest for exploring the building as a historic structure.
Another significant historic property in Stašov is the rectory adjoining the church. Traditional folk architecture is also among the local sights. House No. 5 is an Empire-style building from the early 19th century. These buildings add further facets of local history to the church architecture.
Cycling and outdoor leisure
The 18.8-kilometre Polička–Stašov–Svojanov cycle route is designated as route number 4104. A considerably longer option is the challenging, 47.5-kilometre Polička–Svojanov and back route, which passes through Stašov and is suitable for mountain bikes and cross bikes. The distances distinguish the two options; the longer route is also explicitly classified as challenging. Check the latest route details before setting off, as they may change.
Other leisure activities in Stašov include running routes and easy hikes. For a sporting day by the water, the four-hectare Velký stašovský pond is designated for sport fishing. Its fish stock includes carp, tench, pike, catfish, perch, rainbow trout and whitefish. The fish stock may change; check the applicable rules and permit requirements before fishing.
Balda and the former spa
Balda, also known as Zlatá studna, lies in the cadastral area of Stašov and is an excursion destination with former spa facilities and healing springs. Balda was a forest spa dating from the 17th century; today, only an iron-rich water spring and a chapel remain. These historic remains distinguish this destination from the pond landscapes and buildings in the village. Check the condition of the site and available facilities before your visit.
