Nová Sídla can be understood through its historical settlement structure, individual cultural traces and landscape. The present-day settlement developed in approximately three building phases; its parts include Stará strana, Kozí hřbet and Ovčí. The Chapel of St. Anne, the war grave or memorial to the victims of the First World War, and the traces of the former Sedlíšťka fortress offer further perspectives. The village thus brings the development of the settlement into focus alongside individual buildings and memorial sites.
Building History and Remembrance
The Chapel of St. Anne was built in 1876; the war grave or memorial to the victims of the First World War dates from 1921. A building and a memorial site with different functions thus stand alongside one another. By contrast, the approximately three building phases describe the development of the settlement as a whole; Stará strana, Kozí hřbet and Ovčí are its named parts. Two scales therefore complement one another in the history of the village: dated cultural traces and the development of the settlement.
Sedlíšťka: Barn and Fortress Remains
A valuable Baroque barn was built on the site of the former Sedlíšťka fortress in the 18th century. A circular castle mound surrounded by a moat and small sections of wall have also survived there. The barn and fortress remains are distinct architectural features: the barn is an 18th-century building, while the mound and wall remains belong to the remnants of the former complex. The barn can be classified as a Baroque agricultural building; the castle mound and wall remains are associated with the former fortress site. This juxtaposition offers a concrete comparison between a historic building and the surviving remains of the fortress. A marked red hiking trail also passes through Sedlíšťka. If you plan to use it, check the trail markings on site.
The Loučná River and the Landscape
The Loučná River flows north of Nová Sídla. A regional biocorridor has been designated along the river, extending partly into the municipality’s territory. The river and the corridor thus describe a specific landscape connection. At the same time, Nová Sídla is situated in a landscape shaped by forestry and agriculture, as well as by agriculture. This description characterizes the broader local context, while the biocorridor runs along the Loučná and extends only partly into the municipality’s territory. A named river and a general description of the landscape thus offer two ways of understanding the place.
Hiking and Cycling Trails, Library
There are two trail references to help you plan activities, each with a different geographical scope: the marked red hiking trail passes through Sedlíšťka; cycling route 4021 runs through the cadastral area of Nová Sídla. Before a bike ride, check the current route and the condition of the cycling path. For the hiking trail, check the signs on site. You can take these details into account when planning without treating them as a single route.
The municipal library is also a useful point of reference. It is located on the first floor of the fire station and has a computer and a printer; it also offers public internet access. If you plan to use these services during your stay, check access conditions and availability in advance.
